    Dynamis Valkurm-Fairy ring question

Did our 1st run in Valkurm tonight. Every strat I read was , Kill Fairy Ring, move on. So, what's the strat for killing the Fairy Ring? It came in and did an aoe breath attack that hit everyone for 1000+ damage. You use a CS stun on it? Thanks for the help.

My LS CS + Stuns this thing.

We also make sure to position it correctly, if it faces the mages and a TP move gets through, you're poo'd.

Thing also has TP regen, so when you pull it, make sure puller is at max distance (as RDM last time I pulled it closely and I got dark spored to the face). It also runs at flee speed, gravity will make it walk at normal speed.

We just have mages time nuke, before the nukes land PLD uses Sentinel runs in and faces it away. Everyone goes all out. No 2hours used at all. Works everytime

Most important thing is to keep it facing away from the melee, because all its attacks are cone shaped. We use chain stun on it also, but it isn't necessary. It is more of a saftey precation (though if melee is slow killing, the RDM will die even though your tank won't).

THF sacs the mobs, RNG Shadowbind pulls it. PLD grabs it once unbound and stands with back to the sea and it facing him. WHMs spam cure the PLD as DDs and BLMs kick its ass from behind. No CS stuns and very few deaths except the usual one or two sams and of course the couple of overnuking Taru BLMs who get one shotted.

My LS basically does the same thing, but its just THF sacs, PLD pulls and tanks facing it toward the sea. No one does anything until its in position. Cure bomb the PLD, and then zerg it. Never seemed too complicated.

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm-Fairy ring question

Tanks face it to wall, melee spread out behind it and to its left side, all mages on the right side where no melee are...
Its attacks are magical in nature, sentinel does nothing.....they are also HP based..
CS Stun is far from needed..

People need to be aware that if it turns they shouldn't stand in front of it, but if you position right this probably isnt an issue.

Have never had problems with this guy, ranger is best for pull with a THF sac but can pull without RNG and without flee...

As long as your mages aren't in danger any melee can survive a hit from this thing..

The most we have had is 1-2 deaths per fight usually from darks that use souleater WS >.>

This is the way to handle this NM easily - have a PLD get hate & Sentinel, melee group blows some weapon skills if they have TP and the BLMs time-nuke.

BTW for the OP.. to avoid mass death from this thing ONLY THE PLD SHOULD BE IN FRONT OF IT. Best way to make sure this happens is to pull it all the way across the beach from the tunnel to the camp - Have the healers stand against the wall, then have the melees and BLMs about 10-15 paces out, then have the PLD with the mob facing back towards the tunnel another 10 paces away from there.

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm-Fairy ring question

I have always done it as follows.
Position players on the far side of the beach
pld little above the waterline facing the direction of the cave
2x rdm/drk. positioned at the pld's left and right at a 45 degree angle and about 3/4 max spell range away.
hoard of everyone else a tad more towards the cave.
Thief + rng prepare. Thief pulls (and sacs) while ranger shadowbinds and runs behind the pld

Fairy Ring runs towards the rng. pld vokes hits invincible (or maybe just sentinal dont recall). 1 rdm starts up CSS. Melee decend. If needed the 2nd rdm can CSS but after you get the hang of it the 1 min is more then enough to kill it.

Oh and _ALL_ the mages target the pld for cures.

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm-Fairy ring question

We use a NIN or RDM with W-legs to sacpull the mobs, then i run in and pull the Fairy Ring as BLM/RDM. ES + Gravity, when it arrives we kite-nuke it and some melee run after, sometimes not. Other times depend on RDM/DRK number we have also CS+Stun it aswell.

BRD+Powder Boots is a good sac'r also. Flee+Mazurka = get mobs far, far away.

We normally just shadowbind pull it, and fight it normal. Only special thing is making sure it doesn't face the mages.

Note that its attacks are not physical or magical and thus invicible/sentinal/rampart do jack to it. As a pld i get hit for 1005 damage unblocked, 500 damage blocked (pre Aegis) every time, no matter what damage resistance I wear, or what buffs I have up. HP food, shield gear, and cure bombs. That or a nin tank... >.>

Perhaps its attacks are calculated as breath damage?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have normal melee hits.

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm-Fairy ring question

Hey thanks for all the help. I'll take it into consideration.

Unfortunately, it was our 1st time in the zone so things weren't so good. It took us longer than it should to find the Flies. Then our THF saced the statues the wrong way. So we had a lot of lost time. Next time we'll know.

p.s. Thanks for actually answering the question without all the OMG you noobs.

Valk. is rough the first time around, just keep at it.

Shadowbind has worked best for me in terms of the pull because fairy ring is a goddamn cheater. I would personally save 2hrs for the boss, but if you have a full 36, you can afford using a CS stun if your pld's sentinel goes down and it's not near dead though imo. Fairy ring has the potential to waste the most time for you in that zone, it's important to kill it quickly w/o people getting killed.

    FUCK YOU FAIRY RING!

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm-Fairy ring question

We have done the Shadowbind method as well (I think we might have the RNG use Powder Boots too, and he will have a PLD to pull the thing off him.) Basically, I see Fairy Ring as a mob it's ok to have deaths to, as long as he dies. You will unweaken by the time you get to the next set of mobs anyway (since that is one long ass run.)

We won our first valk.....were all /panic about how hard it would be, but it wasn't as bad as the hype....we never lost a valk until recently and it felt like BS cause of the mega getting charm breath off even though we killed..
We never have had 36...Most was 31? and least 22?

Nan'tina wastes more time for us usually if it is the charm spam mood...

And /yes Shadowbind plz, the one time we forgot had to use 3-4 people to pull it without those dying and he still got a few breaths off on way back

I think he is breath damage, Utsusemi definitely don't work....the Mega is same type of damage.....
