With the "Fletching" (clothcraft) or "Filing" (Bonecraft) key items (10k GP), crafters can now use a Zephyr Thread or Shagreen File, respectively, to triple the output of fletching or arrowhead synthesis (much like the "Lumberjack" key item for lumber synthesis). Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that these items are made available for roughly the same price as Bundling Twine (90g each).
Net financial impact per 18 arrowheads/fletchings synthed (NQ):
2 less wind crystals (-1000G)
1 file/thread (+90G)
net discount= 910G/18 (arrowheads or fletchings)
Given that 18 arrowheads/fletchings will produce 6 stacks of arrows (again assuming no fail, no HQ), we're looking at a whopping net savings of 152 gil per stack (or a mighty 304 gil per stack if you have both key items).
MY CUP RUNNETH OVER, SQUENIX! YOU ARE FAR TOO GENEROUS!
This is before you take into account the value of the items you have to turn in to earn the 20k GP for the key items. Your break-even point should probably occur sometime in Spring 2007.
Do we even need to discuss the "Boltmaker" key item? If you have any sort of decent WW skill (50+), you are losing money by using that item.
2 less earth crystals (-350G)
1 twine (+90G)
net discount= 240G/stack
We'll put Holy Bolts at a conservative 5k/stack, which makes a HQ1 (66 bolts) worth 1600G, and a HQ2 (99 bolts) worth 3300G. So if I can HQ1 once or more in every 7 tries, I'm losing money by using Boltmaker. WHAT A DEAL FOR ME!
BTW, net financial impact to gun users: 0.00000000 gil
And impact on inventory space = negligible. Maybe 1-2 extra slots, if you craft arrows while exping (which really doesn't make sense, since you can't HQ demon/kabura arrows like you can acid/holy bolts).
Thanks for the slap in the face, Squenix. Don't sprain anything patting yourself on the back.
P.S. I shudder to think of the price of 99 DS boltheads. It will not be pretty.
