    Woodworking nowadays~

Kind of a little rent and question for Woodworkers.

Im WW70, but don't really craft since I quit RNG after the patch (no comment). Anyway, after the patch, 90% of RNGs quit, and most WW stoped to craft, or began a new one.

With everyone now turning into mage (BLM RDM SMN), and less Woodworkers, HQ Staves are becoming quite expensive.

Now with this last update, WW got a new GP item (Boltmaker http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/8127), and some new recips like http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/3206. Problem, you can wear more materials, but you need 3 of each to do 99 Arrows (so HQ is still 99 and worthless and making this update totally useless).

So question, is there still any WW on your server, and how much are the HQ Staves? Here, they are around 3.5mil, and 4mil for Thunder.

Most stoped? No way. There is still tons of WW on my server, dumbasses are crafting staves tho. The majority of staves are at 3m, with the ore 700-800k. Just doesn't make sence when given the odds, I wouldn't level it if I were you.

I've never seen so many ppl leveling WW...since the december cheap gil frenzy, most ingredients for 70-90 sell very fast. Some ppl raise it from 0 to 100 in a matter of days (took me 2 years lol).

Once at 100, they start getting their GP items, and when they have these, they try 20-30 staves in a single batch, discover that it's not the easy profit everyone is talking about, so they give up crafting and they get back to farming clusters in Defkut's tower, and silk in Buburimu (based on a real story...)

From my experience, staves HQ rate is a steady tier 2 rate, and even better if you target the good day and moon. But if you see staves as the only money-maker in WW, just don't level it any more, you'd waste your time and gil.

I find myself in a similar quandry when it comes to WW. I'm 73 atm and would like to take it to the cap... but I'm afraid that if I do, I'll be reduced to long endless sessions of making shihei if I want to turn a profit because HQ staves don't seem worth it any longer...

That doesn't even mention the fact that there seems to be no other good HQ snyths for WW besides staves.

I mean... don't get me wrong, I'll grind out shihei if I have to cause anything is better than farming, but I keep thinking I can make more gil elsewhere if I switch crafts.

    Well, I don't know.

I used to see 5+ HQ Staves everytime you'd check AH, but nowadays, you hardly see 1 or 2.

On fairy, its gotten pretty stable of a market for HQ staves and cursed stuff.

A few months back, ores were like 2-3mil each (no joke) NQ staves at 500k-1m and HQ staves anywhere from 8-12m.

It's stabilized and ores are all 600-800k now. HQ's 3-5m dependant on what element. Unless you have REALLY HORRIBLE luck on HQ's for this (going 0/6 for example.) then you're fine.

Divine logs have dropped from 11mil to 6mil or so (still like 6 on the AH.. really sure it'll be undercut to like 4mil in the next week or so.) and I've gotten away with selling a lot of the cursed haidate I made for 1mil more than how much a divine log has gone for. A little profit while gambling for a -1 piece so it's nice.

Other than these things, there is no profit unless you shit out shihei all day.. but its time consuming and annoying to bundle them all the time.

    Siren:

    HQ Staves: 2-4 million
    Ores: 450k-800k

Seems stable, just that WW don't bother trying to crank it out like they used to. There are other things to make money from nowadays.

People are making less money, but money buys more than it used to. That's what happens when you delete hundreds of mules named "Qurzzfghtrt" with maxxed gil.

Ok, I see about the HQ Staves thing. My rent part was more about something like this:

With the "Fletching" (clothcraft) or "Filing" (Bonecraft) key items (10k GP), crafters can now use a Zephyr Thread or Shagreen File, respectively, to triple the output of fletching or arrowhead synthesis (much like the "Lumberjack" key item for lumber synthesis). Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that these items are made available for roughly the same price as Bundling Twine (90g each).

Net financial impact per 18 arrowheads/fletchings synthed (NQ):

    2 less wind crystals (-1000G)
    1 file/thread (+90G)
net discount= 910G/18 (arrowheads or fletchings)

Given that 18 arrowheads/fletchings will produce 6 stacks of arrows (again assuming no fail, no HQ), we're looking at a whopping net savings of 152 gil per stack (or a mighty 304 gil per stack if you have both key items).

MY CUP RUNNETH OVER, SQUENIX! YOU ARE FAR TOO GENEROUS!

This is before you take into account the value of the items you have to turn in to earn the 20k GP for the key items. Your break-even point should probably occur sometime in Spring 2007.

Do we even need to discuss the "Boltmaker" key item? If you have any sort of decent WW skill (50+), you are losing money by using that item.

    2 less earth crystals (-350G)
    1 twine (+90G)
    net discount= 240G/stack

We'll put Holy Bolts at a conservative 5k/stack, which makes a HQ1 (66 bolts) worth 1600G, and a HQ2 (99 bolts) worth 3300G. So if I can HQ1 once or more in every 7 tries, I'm losing money by using Boltmaker. WHAT A DEAL FOR ME!

BTW, net financial impact to gun users: 0.00000000 gil

And impact on inventory space = negligible. Maybe 1-2 extra slots, if you craft arrows while exping (which really doesn't make sense, since you can't HQ demon/kabura arrows like you can acid/holy bolts).

Thanks for the slap in the face, Squenix. Don't sprain anything patting yourself on the back.

P.S. I shudder to think of the price of 99 DS boltheads. It will not be pretty.
Looks like Im not the only one to think WW has gone down, and that less players are going the way of Woodworking. With everyone going Mage, and less player doing WW, HQ staves will just jump in price too.

We all know it doesn't really work like that tho

If it was that easy and you could HQ 75% of the time (6/8 being 75%), everyone would HQ them.

I personally think Woodworking sucks. The only Break even synth I have found is Cursed Gear, and that sells super slow. Staves are around 1/4 Break even. Then other than that, there's not really much to do for profit. Everything else is Tier1, and if you even HQ the item, it'll take you forever to sell it.

Boltmaker etc. isnt meant to save you money. it's meant so that you can synth faster. i.e. synth the same amount of shit in 1/3 the time. Why does no one get this? its not supposed to be a bargain, just a time saver.
