Similar to the "is the glass half empty or half full?" question.. do you primarily think of the negative things, or the positive things in situations?
Examples.. in past relationships, do you tend to think of all the bad things and always beat yourself up, or do you think of all the good things that happened, despite how it ended it?
When you let your daughter go out on a date, do you think about all the bad things that could go wrong? she could get raped, or she might get into a car wreck, she might get pregnant, etc; or do you view it positively, such as she’s finally growing up, she’s becoming a real strong woman now who can make her own decisions.
When your wife goes out to go pick something up in a bad snow storm, do you think about her getting in a car crash and dying, will someone run into her? Or do you think about how you know she’s a good defensive driver and that she will be alright.
When your dad is working with a table saw, do you think about how something could happen and he could get his fingers cut off? or do you know that he’s been doing it for years and he does everything safely and correct.
When you’re out of town or go away for a few hours and no one will be watching the house, do you worry about it being robbed, or something happening and the house would burn down? Or do reassure yourself and realize that you take every precaution necessary and trust that everything will be ok.
Does this mean that you view life negatively? I don’t think so, for some reason I’ve kind of realized that in these similar situations, I’m always of thinking about the worst outcome that could happen and have been thinking that way for a long time. This doesn’t mean I wake up in the morning and bitch to myself "I hate life, I don’t want to go to work, oh woe is me" etc. It's just that I feel worried for others, that I have some sort of responsibility to make sure everyone is ok, and that everything goes ok, and always looking to improve things by looking at the bad and making sure it doesn’t happen again.
