    I want to see this sort of thing in mainstream technology yesterday, anyone else?

    Yeah but well the Wii is designed around many people playing and more of a social thing, where this is 1 person only.

    this would be an epic step in FPS games. personally, i find binds for peeking corners to be irritating, they're slow and clumsy

    That is pretty interesting. And yeah amazing for fps games... only controls you would use in your hand would be strafe and forward/back and maybe aiming all looking around and turning and tilt would be controlled by your forehead.

    This needs to be incorporated into next-gen systems. Like IBM was talking about a series of cameras in a room without a controller, I think this should be the next step. Controllers are still useful as you can see in the video, the experience is just so much more emersive.

    Although if this would be put into a current-gen wii fps, I'd shit bricks.

    That video is pure awesome. And I agree it should be used in the next gen systems. FPS's would benefit greatly from it yes, but just about any game would be able to benefit from it. Imagine a fighting game like Soulcalibur and you're one of the fighters in first person view, I guess 3rd person would work too if the camera is directly over your character.

    This really isn't anything "zOMG" new, although his approach for accomplishing this for a few bucks on the Wii was impressive (as well as the other stuff he has done so far with the Wii). TrackIR tried doing this for PCs, but it really doesn't translate well for most FPS games. Until everyone is standing and hopping around while they play this really isn't going to spread, although it is part of the next logical step. This has also already been looked at with any number of "Head and Wand" + "VR Fishtank" tracking setups for quite awhile. It doesn't really "take" as well as you'd expect though, because once you get into the natural movements of sight lines you will no longer be looking forward at a stationary monitor and your eyes will still have to "cheat" back to center in order to keep looking at the screen. Think about actually looking around a corner or behind you, your eyes don't want to naturally stay looking forward as your head turns. His window analogy is spot on, however what most people are overlooking with regards to a FPS is the fact that you still can't go "in the window".

    If the Wii was more powerful and wasn't primarily a "party system" this might have some legs as it would be the only current mainstream system that this would work with since you're already "moving around like an idiot" when playing. Considering that most people are still sitting while playing, you can't really achieve this effect well and it turns into nothing more than a "head mouse" with results similar to his football stadium example. It does show promise though as the cost of entry barrier for something like this is very low now and it could add quite a bit of fun in certain games.
