    Xploder warning

This is a warning to all the PS2 users. There is a device for PS2 called Xploder HDTV Player. The PS2's default video output is 480i. This bad boy will change that through software to 480p, 576p, 720p, and 1080i. Most web sites have it for around 29.99 US dollars. The review on BestBuy.com has only 1, and that guy wants to have its babies. IGN said it was mostly crap. I found it for 9.99 at a Babbage’s (10 bucks wth I'll try it). I can tell you it does work; it is just a pinch better video output. The 480p and 576p look better on my HDTV. The 720p and 1080i distort the image and I don’t have the image control that some much better HDTV's will have to make those look better. But here's the kicker. When used with FFXI, it has an unattended side effect, it gives your character a permanent "Flee" affect. I would hate to see someone try this for the video up and get reported for speed hacking. Just a heads up.

I do not know it just appeared to me that I kinda wrote that as a comercial, not my intent. I would say its not worth 30 bucks but 10 at a re sale shop its cool to play around wth.

it's FFXI, playing the game facing in a cardinal direction probably gave flee effect at one point.

I don't believe this is possible. It's like saying a USB video output device makes your CPU run faster or modifies the software on your PC.

I think this is simply an erroneous dispay error.

All I know is it send every line to the tv instead of every other line so it does looks a smidge better. And I had a few friends in the town I was in watch me and they said I was fleeing. I went out of town and voke a bunny and out ran it like I had flee on so I loged and killed it lol

So you look like your running faster on your end, but the server probably still has you running at normal speed.

Display glitch, that's all. Might be best to get an online friend to watch this effect in motion; if he can't see it, you're fine.

    Re: Xploder warning

this is caused by stressing the fps to 60 instead of 30, which FFXI is locked on. Other methods to buff your FPS in FFXI also has the sideeffect of flee.

    Re: Xploder warning

i had a friend that told me if he ran the right combo of programs it would overclock his pc or whatever and would make him have a flee like effect, so this may be plausible

This is correct. In their infinite wisdom, SE wrote FFXI's movement code to use distance per FRAME rather than per second (or millisecond, etc) as the base movement speed, then compensate based on your actual framerate. Of course, since the frame rate is software capped at 30 fps, you don't need to cover the corner case of someone running at >30 fps anyways, right? Right?

And yeah Doofus, there's a lot of other ways to achieve the same effect. Slightly incorrect overclocking, changing system time while FFXI is running, etc.

No, lol, your speed and positions is client side, not server side.

even though i knew what the consequences were before hand and still did it against better judgement.

    Re: Xploder warning

    So I have a question.

This device apparently messes with the framerate, right? Isn't weapon delay calculated off the framerate?

    In other words:

    PS2 Xploder + full dusk = normal running speed + perma 100GA?

This warrants trying out as who would ever notice something out of the ordinary if someone was running in full dusk.

Silly SE and your shitty programing. The real reason AV isn't fixed: Fixing AV makes killing normal mobs worth 10k exp
