Calculating a Monster's TP Damage, possible?

So we have a pretty good understand of combat system and know a lot about a monster's stats...

Is it possible to test for a monster's TP move statistics in the same way we know our own WSes? I've been considering the possibility of including such information in the wiki for the sake of being able to tell players how much damage they will be dealing with.

You mean like, the strength of certain monster weaponskills being affected by the amount of TP they have when they're being used?

I'm certain that it could be tested, but it would be a fairly arduous test (probably about as annoying as the enmity test ).

To do this wouldn't you have to control how much TP the mob in question had, assuming it is damage affected by TP that is? Not exactly an easy task unless you are planning on doing the testing <25% hp, though I guess that would be a start.

beastmaster can help there is a lot of situations. on any mobs that can be charmed anyway.
charm it, attack something with it, wait until it has the right tp and then pull it off and sleep/kill whatever your pet was using to get tp.
leave it, and agro it (provoke). await random incoming tp move.

just thinking out loud here, but how would you take into account factors of hp based tp moves like bomb toss and Incinerate? (seems to do ALOT more if mob is near full health)

some pc tp moves vary with tp, but only spirits within (and devotion i guess... more of a /ja) is hp based but even that has its dmg capped at 300% tp for the full hp/2 calculation

What is the purpose of this testing?

Btw, it's not just TP that would be tested, but every statistic about the WS.

Re: Calculating a Monster's TP Damage, possible?

I doubt TP% has any impact on mob moves. If it did you would generally see them being stronger when the mob has higher life, since nearly all mobs tend to hold TP above like 25-33ish% HP, often to 300TP. And I have never noticed anything like this in years of playing FFXI, nor have I heard anything similar from any other players, with the exception of attacks that are directly correlated to HP.

Even if TP did have an effect, it would be extremely long, and tedious to test what effects TP% had on different mob WS, and the end result would be useless. It would have no impact on the way we fight anything, since it's something the player has no control over.

Figuring out statistical modifiers for TP moves has some small degree of merit, but really, that is an insane amount of testing to figure out almost entirely useless information. I mean what, is your drk going to asborb-dex on dagger mamools because you figured out rushing stab has a small dex mod? No... And good luck testing this stuff out on any mobs where the information could be of any use in the first place.

How would figuring out that information help players figure out how much damage they're dealing with? If you somehow managed to figure out the modifiers for say fang rush, how could a player make any use out of them? The player would need to know the level, attack, weapon damage, and stats of the specific wyvern he is fighting to make any use of it. And to make things even worse, TP moves of NMs don't always follow the same rules of a normal mob in the same family.

Re: Calculating a Monster's TP Damage, possible?

Considering monsters tend to follow job/job in stats that's not the biggest problem. Being able to figure the game's battle system completely is indeed difficult, but there's no reason not to try. I still see a use for such information, and I admit finding such information sounds difficult(which why I made this thread in the first place). For a player to be able to look up a monster and see exactly how much damage it will do(rather than something silly like "random number" to "random player") would be great for a database site. A breakthrough could lead to other developments in strategy. If it doesn't interest you at all, then I don't know what to say, but I'm thankful for you for pointing out difficulties.

Re: Calculating a Monster's TP Damage, possible?

I can certainly think of ways just about everything could be tested, but it's going to take a long time to do all the testing, and though I'd love to see it, I doubt there's many people that would have the patience to do it. The information just isn't worth the time it would take to get it.
