NPR said it would mostly effect school lunches and low-income families.
So don't worry, its just the po'.
Odds are it's not just the old, sick and po'. Chances are there's tainted meat out on the shelves more often than not because the US's recall standards aren't stricly designed to protect consumers. If you eat meat, you've probably eaten tainted meat. You just don't really notice since if it's cooked at a high enough temperature it won't make you sick enough to notice. It gets worse since such knowledge isn't easily disseminated without the threat of a lawsuit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_libel_laws
Doesn't stop me from eating steak but I sure as hell don't buy pre-ground beef anymore.
Correct me if i'm wrong but what do you mean "just effects low income families" the meat we buy in any super market come low or upper pretty much imo come from the slaughter house(s)Originally Posted by isladar

Also, isn't mad cow in the nerves? I assume the risk would be the nerves touch the meat, but does it really survive being in the frige for hours/days on non-nerve tissue, then the grill(or whatever else, i cook my meat past medium-rare)? claiming ignorance.
This "tainted" meat's been on the market since Feb. so I dont think theres anything wrong with the beef supply, plus i only think it affects california.
Its not really tainted meat, theres just a slight possibility that since the animals were poorly treated that there may have had defects. The meats been on the market for so long and no one has reported sick, its just a matter of animal rights and essentially they're forced to recall the meat. They fucked up, they'll pay.
Honestly I was parroting what I'd heard in brief on the radio, as mentioned. The reasons for the recall are shocking, and makes me wonder of my mother's "free range" onry policy isn't the right course.Originally Posted by Zigma

There's a surprising amount of spinal cord matter that makes it into processed beef anyway (the primary reason for the years-long import ban on American beef in Japan).
Most bacteria and viruses survive just fine in a refrigerated environment. Even freezing won't kill some foodborne pathogens, just stop their growth. Hence the call to cook meat thoroughly.
Mind you knowing this hasn't stopped me from eating medium-cooked prime rib. But the more you know the more those food inspection 'grades' outside of So.California restaurants make a difference in where you eat.
Maybe I'll put a little more thought into how rare I want my steak ><. Rare = best ever, but I've heard horror stories of food poisoning, and the one thing I hate the most is throwing up... (One reason why I don't really drink.)
Im with you Tricen, when we go out for steaks I order mine Black and Blue. I've been eating them that way for no less than i dont know, 15 years? lol. If I am not mistaken that is about 30 seconds on each side?
Damn I want a steak now![]()
I am going to outback tonight :3 Rare Prime Rib = sex for me.Originally Posted by Mizango

I personally like my steaks medium rare but would have no problem eating rare except i dont like the texture.
I find it funny that this story broke out after yesterday when I watched "Fast Food Nation" yesterday and this week's "Torchwood" which was about some people that were selling alien meat as cow meat.
Society is trying to tell me to go vegan but I'm still having a steak tonight.
Fucking white people and their rare, bloody steak. Sick ass niggas.
god a steak sounds good right now :rocl: Medium rare with some onions and mushrooms on top = <3![]()
I try to eat my steak medium. No blood, but a nice pink color inside. Oh, and mad cow can't be killed by cooking/freezing it![]()
I lol'd and while I'm no fanatic of rare steak, since I order mine 3/4 most of the time. I do love steak tartar.Originally Posted by Slapper
Thank god 95% of the steaks I eat came from the cows in my backyard. Hard to like anything you get at the store or any non-high end steakhouse once you have home-raised. Difference between organic and rBGH'd beef is miles wide to my taste![]()
