Help with Xbox 360 USB controller for PC with Vista OS.

So I got this wonderful PC the only downfall is that it has Vista as its OS. Coming from playing on the PS2/PS3/Xbox 360 I'd prefer to be able to have the compatability of using a controller. However I got the standard Xbox 360 USB controller in hopes it would work fine like most USB plug and play items do... However as soon as I plug it in it lights up a few times then shuts itself off. If anyone could supply any information on how to fix this problem I'd greatly appreciate it.

Open up Windows Update, it should find a hardware update for the controller. Install it and you should be good to go.

You gotta set it up manually.. I pretty much was in the same boat as you and hadto get the software for the controller. I don't have Vista though. so Vista might have the software built in.
I forgot the website, but google stuff like "XBOX360 Controller for PC" (key words around that. and it should pull up the website). If you wanna make it easy for urself and still have the box for the controller then look on the back of the box, 100% positive that it gives a address to DL the software somewhere on the box. If you dont have it anymore then call up an ebgames or gamestop and ask em to look at the back of the box for it.

that should work.. too lazy to do a full search to make sure...

So yeah after the infinite wisdom of some friends I went out and changed to the Wireless 360 remote with the installation disc right in it.... So I install everything follow every instruction as well as read the "Help" section to figure out why this shit STILL isn't working... Only thing I can think of at this time is that windower fucks it up?
p.s. it says "Compatable with Vista" right on the case =(

You need the wireless base for the 360 wireless to work on PC. However, if you have the wired, just download the driver then follow the instructions the driver gives. Configuration is pretty simple on them, and the controllers work awesomely. I might switch to the wireless controller since I got the wireless adapter with my headset
