Looking at the stuff coming out this month, there are a TON of good releases for nearly every system. I'll probably pick up a few things (although I'm on a buying-later-for-cheaper kick recently), what does everyone plan on picking up? Here's a list of the stuff coming out this month, let me know if I missed anything:
Already out: Star Ocean 2 (PSP), My World My Way (DS), Rygar (Wii)
Feb. 9th - 12th:
-Deadly Creatures (Wii) - Billy Bob Thorton as a tarantula? really? Maybe Wii owners can let me know if this is any good, I have my doubts but I have an open mind.
-Fear 2 (PS3/360) - The demo was fun, but I'm not a huge fan of shooters. I like horror, but I should probably play the first FEAR before trying this.
-X-Blades (PS3/360) - looks like a decent action RPG but from what I've heard it's apparently very short, perhaps worth a rental but idk.
-Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (PS3/360) - one of the few things I'll get on release date, especially since it's only $30
-Mass Effect (360) - If I didn't already own this I'd buy this in a heartbeat. $20 for the game, a bonus disc, AND the DLC? Everyone should buy this like now. New DLC is supposedly on the way too!
-Retro Game Challenge (DS) - This has gotten great reviews, this bunch of "retro" games made specifically for this compilation. The included RPG, Guadia Quest, apparently fuses elements of Dragon Quest II with the SMT series, looks amazing.
-Onechanbara (Wii/360) - 2 different games here, seem to be a decent hack n slash. Bikini babes isnt my thing, but the game's gotten a decent amount of press.
-Loco Roco 2 (PSP) - Not worth picking up immediately, IMO, even though the first was amazingly fun.
-Flower (PSN) - Apparently flOw was the shit, idk.
-Lit (Wiiware) - Looks like a wiiware version of Obscure, but this got semi-decent reviews. Perhaps I'd consider it if I owned a Wii.
Feb. 16th - 19th
-Fire Emblem DS (DS) - *gasp* I've never played a Fire Emblem game, but I was thinking about getting into the series with the GC version. This looks pretty good though.
-Dragon Quest V (DS) - DQ4 was one of my favorite handheld RPGs of last year, hopefully this one is just as good. I'll probably pick this up but not for a while.
-Street Fighter IV (360/PS3) - Not a huge fighting game fan myself, but I'm sure this will be extremely popular.
-GTA IV: Lost and the Damned (360) - Not sure when the PS3 DLC is coming out, I haven't played a GTA since Vice City either D:
-Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? (PSP) - Looks like a decent platformer, I haven't played enough disgaea to get the in-jokes so I probably won't get it.
-Noby Noby Boy (PSN) - I'm looking forward to this, Katamari was one of my favorite game and this is going to be relatively cheap too.
Feb. 24th - 26th
-50 Cent: Blood in the Sand (PS3/360) - Never played bulletproof, not my thing, moving on...
-Puzzle Quest: Galactrix (360/DS) - I'm not a huge fan of Puzzle Quest, mostly because I've never really played it, but I'm sure I would if I liked it. Obviously it's at least entertaining, since it's been released for like every system known to man. This one is in space!
-Star Ocean: The Last Hope (360) - The big RPG of the season? Idk, everyone I know is looking forward to this. Hopefully it's good, I'll probably pick it up once the price drops a bit, not because I don't want it badly but because I have too much to play still.
-Blue Dragon Plus (DS) - Everything Mistwalker makes is great, IMO, so I'll probably get this eventually. Hopefully it's good D:
-Legacy of Ys, Books I & II (DS) - Atlus delayed this a week but decided to make every copy a collector's edition, complete with soundtrack CD. I might pick it up but I think that's me just falling for what I liked to call "Atlus Effect" (see below)
-Dead Rising: Chop til You Drop (Wii) - They took out a lot of what made Dead Rising passable, I have a bad feeling about this. Plus I no longer own a wii, for now.
-Prince of Persia Epilogue - My feelings on $10 DLC notwithstanding I will probably get this, PoP turned out to be one of my favorite games of last year and I'd love to play more of it.
Like I said, it's a heavy month of releases. It almost feels like TOO much stuff, and it's certainly too much for me to consider stretching my budget to get more than 1-2 things. I'll almost certainly pick up the Genesis Collection for 360, and probably the Retro Game Challenge for the full-fledged RPG it has. The only other releases I'm really salivating over this month are DQ5 and Star Ocean for 360, but both of those can wait until my backlog clears up some and the price drops a little. Part of me hopes Star Ocean is good but gets bad reviews so the price will drop faster, lol.
As for Ys, part of me feels compelled to purchase it simply because Atlus is putting it out. The "Atlus Effect" I mentioned above is the desire I seem to feel every time Atlus puts a game out, regardless of quality, to purchase it out of fear it will be out of print or obscenely expensive when I decide I want to play it. I probably won't bite on ys, truth be told. Has anyone played My World My Way yet?
I'll almost certainly spring for the Prince of Persia DLC, like I said above PoP turned out to be exactly the kind of game I was looking for and I really enjoyed it. This will be the 9th or 10th time in the past 6 months that I've spend an additional 10 bucks for relatively small amounts of content, but aside from Force Unleashed I haven't really regretted any of the purchases. I feel like 800 pts for DLC is a bit overpriced in general considering how much/little content they give you, and I'm a complete sucker so of course I always buy it. I save enough money waiting to buy the game that this evens out, but it still stings eventually.
What about you guys? What are you picking up this month, and why?
