Old RPG Pickup

Recently I went back and replayed a couple of old RPGs I had just lying around and I still love them, namely Legend of Dragoon, Legaia 2 and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.

I'd probably be willing to replay through any of these games again and again simply because they're so freakin' fun, anyone else find themselves picking up old RPGs they never finished or just loved to play a lot?

Haven't found a lot of replay value in recent games (at least the ones I've played)

Tonight I'm actually going to be starting a new Star Ocean: 'Till The End Of Time file. First time I played through it, was fun And I guess that I just wanna replay through it... and remember like half the storyline.

wow I remember getting pretty far in SO3, until some area where everything is made of crystal or w/e but suddenly everything was kicking my ass there so I just quit trying.

I might go back through it and try universe and 4D someday.

I actually didn't even finish the endgame stuff, I think I got to floor 18X in Sphere 211 and called it quits.

4d is pretty unreal, i'm stuck on floor 209 atm, best bet is to use Cliff/Fayt whose weapons all have max boots of prowess (atk/def+30%) replicated as much as it can + the best armor, eventually in other difficulties enemies (and lots of bosses too, even high up in sphere) stop doing any damage at all to them, though this makes it kind of easy it works incredibly well, then just use Cliff + max shockwave

my favorite char is still nel though, her attacks are fucking beastly.

star ocean has to be my favorite RPG in a long time :D

Can't say I enjoyed end game much. Harder difficulty level just meant I had to abuse of some loop hole in the AI, or spam overpowered craft (hi2u boot of prowess). It made the game really repetitive.

Suppose it's only about 3 years old, but considering all of the "next-gen" consoles and new games coming out stuff gets relatively older faster

I also just going back to enjoy games I've had lying around a while after trolling through my PS2's memory card thing on the startup with all the little icons, also just picked up ZoE again and realized I never actually played the second one, just getting the most out of the 50$~ I spend on games I suppose

I didn't really spam any overpowered craft items or moves, I didn't even mess with the item creation system much at all till endgame.

I didn't use any guides or anything either, just kinda played it by ear.
Even then, Sphere got kinda easy, it couldn't hold my interest long enough for me to get to Lenneth and Freya, that's the main reason I would be willing to go back on harder difficulty settings.

Especially since I know tons more about IC and the game in general.

Luckily I still have my battle trophy data so I don't have to play through the game again normally to play in other difficulties.

I play FFIV all the time since it is so incredible, and can't wait for the DS version.

And I beat FFX for the first time this fall.

Ignore the haters and buy FFX-2... best battle & job systems out of any Final Fantasy out there IMO.

it's definitely something different, and I always love new game+ features, but tbh all you needed was 2 drks spamming darkness + an aoe healer (alchy/whm)

FFX was definitely fun though, at least the post-storyline game anyway, I just wish I had a chance to try Penitence and the Dark Aeons on the international version.

Yeah I know what the best combo/s can be, i'm just saying it's fun trying all those jobs out. They made the battle system very entertaining IMO.

I just spammed attack with gamblers, because I was always level 99 by the time I got gambler anyway. At least the last 10 levels of the sorta-random dungeon is still a slight challenge with completed mascots.

Did you ever play FFV? It had a much better and more complex job system

I love FFV, and I just can't agree with that.

Yes the story was fucking stupid. But even though FFV has a lot of diversity as far as different classes are concerned, I thought the X-2 jobs worked out a lot better (and were actually fun to play... I didn't have too much fun playing FFV, it felt like a drag having to level shit for different areas, etc.)

Not really. Xenosaga story was told better than Xenogears. Gameplay wise, I supose jumping around in 3d world was more fun, but encounter's rate always killed my fun when i played and replayed Xenogears.

I disagree, I think the story and gameplay in Xenogears was easily better than Xenosaga, and it would've held up better in comparison if the second disc had played out anything like the first.

That isn't to dismiss Xenosaga at all, the series is by far one of my favorite.
