    Mute FFXI

Is there a way to COMPLETELY mute FFXI ? Including the god damn sound in POL and the march when you're loggin in. I know that adjust the bg/sfx to 0 won't help. Also if you guys know how to make a keyboard shortcut to do enable/disable sounds in FFXI would be a great help.

Go to the FFXI Config in the shortcuts in start menu. There is a setting to turn off sound. You can do the same for Playonline Config. Seems like a kinda silly question though... Every PC I've installed this game on, I've needed to use the config program to change resolutions and set up my gamepad... did you really not know you could turn off sound there as well?

The problem is I want to do turn it on and off whenever I want to. If you adjust something in the ffxi config, you will need to restart the game to get what you've just changed.

Would be nice if you could turn it on and off in game, but don't think that's possible.

    Re: Mute FFXI

You mean by opening the ingame menu, going to Config, going to Gameplay, and manually lowering the music and/or sound effects volume to 0? Definitely not possible.

You can turn the Music and Sound all the way down in game in config.

    Re: Mute FFXI

Doing that doesn't get rid of the title screen sound. It's actually a per-character setting. When logging in/out you get full-volume music.

You can completely prevent the game from using sound at all via the FFXI Config option. Or you can lower the volume of music and sound effects per character, but that only applies when logged into that character.

Are you recording "what you hear" from something though? Or playing on a system where the noise would be obvious (like, second monitor showing a movie that your friends are watching)?

I have the music volume at 0 most of the time and just listen to MP3s.

Stupid suggestion: Maybe try replacing the .bgm files for the title screen music with tracks of complete silence?

In that case, i'm not sure if what the OP is asking for is really possible. I mean, are the 8 seconds of music you hear when you log into FFXI really that debilitating?

I suppose you could use headphones for music and mute your speakers? On my computer i have the FFXI sounds play through my computers speakers and Vent through my headset. The two never cross over. In Vista though, the soundstack works a bit differently and you can adjust volume for apps individually. Since the Windower counts as a different application, i can effectively mute POL but still have a normal volume setting for FFXI (Windower).

Calls and certain background white noise still come through if you turn both down to zero.

ever tried being on vent and switching chracters? got an annoying puller with <calls> while listening to mp3's on headphones yeah... trying to filter through the retarded responses as I'm also interested in this, gonna try FFXI config route; been too lazy to replace .dat swaps with silence

I've got the marches datswapped with muted files, those things fucking annoy me. You have your FFXI sounds turned down, teamspeak normal volume, winamp low so you can still hear teamspeak. blahblahblah*log to mule*DADADADA DA~ and your eardrums burst.
    *edit* http://forums.windower.net/index.php?showtopic=7496
location for WoTG on the second page or so i think

What's that, you have the music ingame volume down for some reason? you don't say. Here's some music exempt from that slider for no real reason. Just like how the intro screen somehow does not play by the option screen's aspect ratio settings. So retarded.

As for POL, can you turn off POL sounds without affecting FFXI? that would be nice. I've selected a calmer BGM for POL, so it doesn't make quite as much sound anymore, but it's still unnecesarry. Like most of POL actually, sure, it's 'pretty', but I'm just mashing enter to log in anyway.

By the way, since I figure this isn't worth a new topic: Where are the dats for call-call20? I want to replace *ALL* of them with just call20.

Yeah, i'm on Vent and switch characters all the time. Tells, calls, sounds, all that. Like i said, i have my system set so Vent only outputs through my headphones and FFXI only outputs through my speakers. In this fashion i can, if i want, turn my speakers off or mute them and still have full sound over Vent (Vent only sounds). This also works with music and headphones. If i'm using iTunes, i can set iTunes to play through headset only. You then route all the FFXI sounds to your speakers and turn of/mute your speakers. You're left with only music coming through your headset.

And like i said, if you have Vista and don't want to route your sounds between headphones and speakers, you can use Vista's sound control to individually adjust the sounds for all apps that are running. You could say, mute the instance of FFXI, but leave the system sounds and whatever music app you're using so they play as normal. In this way you could mute/unmute FFXI instantly, anytime you want.

I'm not sure if XP has this feature, but on Vista the volume control has a Mixer that allows you to adjust the volume for different programs that are running (also saves this info). I did this to mute Playonline while not affecting other programs (like interwebs, iTunes, etc). This mutes EVERYTHING from the playonline login music to FFXI music/calls/effects.

I regularly blacklist people for that. Call20 is that quiet "twee-dee-doo."
