    Smithing 63+ Route

Soooo this is my first time looking at crafting forums, I really haven't touched my crafting in a good long while. I'm currently sitting at 63 Smithing and I'd like to finish it up, if possible coming as close to breaking even as possible...I'm currently doing Nodowa to whatever they cap at(66 I think?) and I was intending to follow that with Darksteel Picks to 73, but after that I'm completely stumped on a good set of bridges up to Adaman Ingot level.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Currently my laptop is effed up at home, and I'm a console player. I get to use the internet pretty much only at work for the time being, and I can pretty much only access BG and FFXIOnline, and various LJs/LS websites that aren't on GP through the net filters here...I'm not stupid, if it's something I could've just researched quickly on my own without asking someone I would've done it.

I'm actually saving for a new laptop altogether, but I'm likely to hit 73 before that happens. I figured maybe the forum where the experienced crafters hang out might have been a good spot to ask, but it seems the crafting forums can pretty much be replaced with a sign that says to check the wiki and ffxiah. I'll come back after I have some photoshopped T0's to share, thanks for the valuable advice though.

    Re: Smithing 63+ Route

Sup with you dudes always doing that? It's not as funny when ya'll shoot down everyone asking for advice

    63-66: Nodowa

    Cap Out on it.

    66-73: Darksteel Picks

Might wanna desynth for the Darksteel and purchase lumber from the Woodworking guild to cut costs.

    [69]72-79: Karimata Arrowheads

Not gonna bullshit you, but I started this @ 69, with Smithing Gloves because Darksteel Picks for me was just too painful, even considering desynthing. You can camp the Mhaura guild for when Steel Ingots are cheap, but RMT be on this too, and hard. At the least if you camp it religiously, you can get a stack or two from the guild hellishly cheap, then wait a few ingame days to try again (like 3-4 days ingame). If you aren't about that, you could farm/mine/buy Iron Sand and Bomb Ash, and have a high lvl smither craft them all into Steel Ingots/Tama-hagane.

    78-83: Darksteel Nodowa

This is just pain, sorry. XD Get like 6-7 stacks of both ingredients, and go to town on it all. After crafting, can desynth em all or sell back to the guild. But consider every craft a total loss. :3

    83-85: Adaman Sheets

Totally server dependent. So I dunno if you should do em or not.

    80-84: Kotetsu +1

Same as DS Nodowa, is all pain. You can cut costs if you have high lvl crafting friends-- have a CC friend HQ you Silver Thread, and a WW friend bundle up the Rosewood Lumber for you with LumberJack. Then you (or a higher lvl smithing friend) synth all of your Iron Ingots from scratch, saving all the Steel Ingots you get. Then camp the Tenshodo Guilds in Norg or Port Bastok, for the GKTs and have fun suffering.

    83-88: Kanesada +1

Same as Kotetsu, but more annoying. If you saved your HQ steel from the last set, it'll help out alot. You can also have fun camping Steel Ingots again vs RMT, buy from the AH, or make them from the Iron Sand/Bomb Ash synth.

    88-90: Adaman Ingot

Camp the AH, buy up all the ores, synth and resell on the AH for a VERY small loss to a decent profit, depending on how it fluctuates.

... and that's all I got for ya, @ 90.7+3 Smithing meself, lol. Gonna take advice from the previous smithing thread below tho, and bullshit my way to 93, and just do Khroma Ores up til 99.

Is true, but not such a big deal every once in a while to help if you can. It only took me 15 mins tops to compile what I did from previous experiences, and double checking FFXIAH to back it on the lvls/cost. Actually, everyone should just craft from FFXIAH, lol.

Your advice is really really bad in the current market on Asura. Congratulations on giving bad advice. And you spent 15 minutes compiling it to boot.

    Re: Smithing 63+ Route

Currently I am sitting at 73 smithing and have put it on hold until I finish up GP on apron and gloves. However, I have been doing alot of research concerning what path to take next. Basically, everything at this level sucks. One thing I am considering is doing darksteel nodowa as mentioned, but taking those from 73 -> 83 will suck and is obviously going to be quite a loss. However, one thing I haven't seen mentioned that I am somewhat considering at the advice of another smither in my shell is troll bronze ingot -> sheet. You can obtain the ingots from desynthing troll pauldrons which from what I can tell might even give you some skillups as the cap is 79. Sadly, the troll bronze ingots are the HQ1 of this desynth so it might be beneficial if you could somehow obtain the assistance of a higher smither for this step. Ingots can also be obtained as the HQ1 and HQ2 from the desynthesis of troll vambraces. You can then make troll bronze sheets all the way to 82. Currently I'm not quite sure about what to do with all the sheets though, as it would seem they are only used to make Januwiyah which cap at 96 and Bronze roses which cap at 99. The former obviously being the more desirable use of said sheet. I suppose if you want to keep you sheet and eventually turn them into Januwiyah you could then AH these, but my guess would be that it will take you a very long time to get rid of them all. If anyone happens to know the price of Januwiyah to an NPC I suppose that would be the most likley method of selling them as they only sell for about 4.5-5k on my server's AH. Anyways best of luck to you.

Kinda interested how long ago you did darksteel picks I finished this stage fairly recently and it was at almost no loss simply NPCing all of my synths. Granted, I believe darksteel ingots are about 120k a stack now and the Al Zabi WW guild has elm lumber for around 24k a stack. Thus, with each pick selling for around 12.5k with no failures you are just about break even. So to the OP I would for sure recommend the darksteel pick stage.

In conclusion finish Nodowa to its cap at 66 then do darksteel picks to 73 and then brace yourself for a stage of utter fail because:

Anyways, mileage varies server to server; thanks for passing down your almighty crafting wisdom. All the while sounding like a total douche as usual.

*cough* bit of a gap from 2006-2008 >.> It was based on me own experiences back then, sorry I didn't put the year lol. Forgo Arrowhead crafts til 73 then. It's still hell after that. XD

Hey Aurik, I may no know about Ramuh or how their crafts work vs it's economy mein, but it didn't stop me from trying to help the dude at least.

    Re: Smithing 63+ Route

Sho, while I totally understand what you're saying, and would side w/ you if this were a black and white issue, I think the regulars take issue w/ people coming here, using completely vague bullshit that reflects little to no effort on their part. If the OP had come in and said something to the effect of:

"I need advice on Smithing post, blah blah blah...I'm considering doing X synth, but i've heard Y synth might actually make more sense. Anyone have any first hand experience with this, or am I completely overlooking something obvious to skillup on?"

I think you'd find people more willing to help. He started to do this, but then left it incredibly open ended.

There's still be the "ffxiah.com" assholes...but fewer of them, and probably a few more actually willing to offer advice. Coming in and saying he's completely stumped for over 20 lvls of synths is just a little too lazy for my taste.

Ahhh, I see whatcha mean. It would be maddening in that instance then, indeed. Can't change the way dude asked however, but I can at least throw ppl advice through messages, should another topic like this pop up. Though he might have been lazy in his approach in hindsight, I saw it as a genuine question, hehe.
