For some reason, I never like their videos. I think my favourite is Harvest. I like the imagery in their videos but it just never seems to mesh for me

Downloading this only to buy it in a few weeks... pretty hooked on Lotus Eater already, and Heir Apparent was pretty bitchin' live. I anticipate much awesome from this record. :D

Yeah I bought tickets last week for their concert in Toronto, luckily I believe it's away from DT so we're getting a full set <333333 I haven't seen them in years, but I DO remember the first time they came to the city and the VERY small venue they played.. in fact, it was where a bunch of crappy local bands played a lot. Back in the day.....

But that's awesome, I think they have opened with Demon of the Fall a few times I've seen them, or closed with it. It is just one of those songs.. Can't wait! May 24!

I haven't listened to the whole album, but from what I heard it's not quite as great as Blackwater Park/Deliverance (but what is).

That being said I'm still going to their show in Pittsburgh May 15. Haven't seen them since they came to the Trocadero in '06. God they fucking rock a stage.

Anyone know Between the Buried and Me or Three? I don't listen to much metal outside of Opeth/In Flames/Dragonforce. Will they suck as bad as Paradise Lost?

Between The Buried and Me is overall boring. They're kind of the typical opening act, if that makes any sense.

This new Opeth album really is... I just don't know. I like "The Lotus Eater," "Burden," and some of "Hex Omega" (take the distortion off the guitars in the song and it's instantly better). However, the rest of the songs feel like filler songs that have zero purpose. I really, really, really, really do not like this new guitarist's style, and his solos are completely uninspired/typical rehash. After I heard the leaked version of "The Lotus Eater" I felt that Opeth would finally have an album that I'd enjoy again ("Orchid" and "Morningrise" onry for me), but I was wrong.

Overall, I'd say that the progressive elements are incredibly strong, however a lot of the metal elements have gone the typical way of metal. I do love the opening metal riffs on "The Lotus Eater" until ~0:50 as it's very much like some of Immortal's work.

I won't buy this album because there's no point in only listening to 3 songs...

Also, I agree with him on the new album though. It's just too incoherent, and while it's definitely more "prog", they've sacrificed way too much in terms of the overall sound for it. The result is just a series of songs that with two exceptions (Hessian Peel, Lotus Eater) were completely forgettable for me.

I'm loving the entire album so far.
Heir Apparent is much better on the Studio recording than it was on the live leak.

Wtf at the out of tune guitar at the end of Burden though? lol

edit: After a few listens through I'm going to say the new lineup is definitely just as good if not better than the previous lineup. Axenrot's drumming is on par with Lopez's if not better and Akesson's guitar playing is much much more intricate than Lindgren's was.

It's a "I don't know how to play drums to this typ eof music" beat. Seriously though, STOP with the 1 2 beats. You did it in blackwater park(the song), it didn't sound good. Stop.
