What is "Gaming Mode" on a D-Link Router?

Will turning it off affect my PS2 FFXI gameplay in anyway? I read on a website it is better to have it turned off always for performance issues. And none of the google searches bring up anything useful that isin't "tech savvy".

    thanks

Usually all that does is lax the firewall restrictions on your router, allowing traffic to travel more easily to your computer so you don't lag or have connection issues. If you're playing Xbox it'll help if you find you're having trouble connecting to some games. Anyway, it shouldn't affect your performace on PS2.

So would it be better performance wise to have it on or off? I'm guessing on = more freedom for the router/console?

To be honest, I'd take a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude with changing those kind of settings. Like I said all it does it probably just lax the firewall, but more advanced modes actually analyze the traffic coming into your router and grant priority to gaming packets over everything else (which can be better for gaming, but not for people trying to browse the web or check email ect). If you give your router model we can google it and try to find out exactly what it does, but again if you're not having any problems with FFXI and your internet connection in general I see no reason to change it. If anything, it will likely cost you performance when gaming.
