First game of a match to be played on Smashville. Players can decide to play on any map, if both players agree.
Excessive stalling or abusing terrain to not engage the enemy is prohibited, and can be enforced by a tournament director only. This will result in a loss of the match.
Losing player can pick a new stage or new character, not both.
Winner keeps character (users of Samus/Zamus, Zelda/Shiek, and Pokemon Trainer are currently ALLOWED to change which character/mode they start in even after a win) but must select character/mode before other player has to choose stage/character.
3 Stock, 5 Min timer, 2/3 Games
Items on medium spawn.
Sudden Death will not decide the outcome of the game.
Allowed Items: Banana Peel, Unira, Spring, Mr. Saturn, Green Shell, Smoke Ball, Freezie, Super Scope, Sandbag, Food, Screw Attack, Warp Star, Metal Box, Bunny Hood, Beam Sword, Baseball Bat, Lip's Stick, Star Rod, Hothead, Smash Ball, Ray Gun, Pitfall, Cracker Launcher, Motion-Sensor Bomb, Hammer, Golden Hammer, Bumper, Franklin Badge.

worst rules i've ever heard to be held in Evo ever... Seriously WTF is w/ the items, the matches aren't gonna be skill-based but luck based on getting the smash ball etc.

My bad i was actually posting w/o thinking much cuz i was in a hurry in the middle of class. Well not 100% luck based, but most of the items are just gonna kill all the skill involved. But IMO the fact that the smash ball exists, basically imbalance the game completely, and can turn around the entire match. (ie. sonic players, or other characters that aren't exactly 1v1 friendly can hunt the smash ball and pretty much win relying on that and other items)

Smash Ball flips any sort of balance on it's head. Is anyone really that crazy to think they are viable? Also medium means there is going to be 2 items on the stage almost constantly. That's taking away from the focus of the actual fighting.

As for luck: Smash Ball is quite a bit a luck when it comes to defending. It's totally random when it gets knocked out of someone. A full front smash from Ike sometimes isn't a enough, but a jab from pikachu is.

What really pisses me off is that it's common sense. I've read what these people have to say and I get the feeling they have no idea what they are talking about. Why is it so hard to continue the traditional Melee ruleset(and everyone on Brawl uses). If you want to include items, you should start with something that works then consider adding them later. And in no part of that should you be allowing items like Golden Hammers, Smash Balls, and Hotheads. God damn.

Ummmmmmm yeah smash ball and items give sonic a major boost, but it's not going to put him anywhere close to actual good characters.

He's not the best at getting the smash ball and if he does get it, it is not "I win", it is one stock. It's less strong than certain dedede matchups on some stages. Remember, unlike other items getting the smash ball is not pure random luck. If a person is in control of the match, that person can generally prevent the opponent from getting the ball.

They also seemed to remove the most broken items. The ones they left in are avoidable and counterable. The only explosive is one that needs to be picked up and thrown to be activated.

Winner keeps character is the biggest mistake imo.

If Sonic's FS is played optimally(this is usually luck based) it's two stocks, and certainly does more damage than one stock. It's not like some super attack in SF where you can block, parry, or counter it. Final Smashes were poorly designed through and through.

Also, do you mean walk-off stages with that Dedede comment? Those are almost always banned. I think Castle Siege and Delfino Plaza might be the only exceptions since they are transforming stages. Wall stages are also usually banned for similar reasoning.

So, with the right timing on Castle Siege or Delfino Plaza, it's an insta-death.

FSes have some glaring issues (notably landmaster vs slow characters), but sonic fucking needs them.

Typical common sense would be to not pick either of those stages when against a Dedede or anyone else who can chain grab like that(neither will be neutral). Also, you make it seem like Sonic FS is easier to dodge than a grab. You can't hold it against banning FS, please stop bringing it up.

Sonic doesn't need his FS. Sonic has placed nicely in online tournaments at least. He might not be able to beat Snake and Metaknight aggressively, but not many can(counter picks will be important because of this). Sonic is a very playable character and he's not even considered bottom tier by most. To repeat he doesn't need an "I win" button. You will have to go into detail on why he would.

In my experience that only really happens when dodge rolling or Ike's glitchy Quick Draw.

Who is besides Ganondorf? Jigglypuff is pretty damn aggresive as I have noticed among several people nowadays

I haven't been following it recently, but it's basically been looking something like Ganondorf, Falcon, and Link consistently being put down there. It's not like they can't handle themselves either though. Which really only proves my point more-so.
