Re-Installing TOAU/WOTG on CPU that can't read DVDs

    Here's my situation:
+Final Fantasy XI, RoZ, CoP all installed on a desktop computer that CAN'T read DVDs, only CD ROM.
+I have TOAU, WOTG expansion pack discs with codes.
+I have a laptop computer connected to the same wireless network as the cpu I am on.
    +The laptop CAN read DVDs.
+Am majoring in biology, not computers. -_-

Sorry if this topic has already been made. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Find a FFXI torrent (check "Advance Player Discussion"), then use Daemon Tools to open the ISO and install. If you have the ISO in your pc, you obviously would skip the torrent part.

Yeah that's how I did it last time. I was just hoping someone knew how to do it the O.G. way. I see zigma has the WotG torrent hosted. If anyone can link me to a ToAU one, would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I have the ToAU install, but I can't torrent it. If you get on AIM I can send it to you through file transfer? Or Yahoo Messenger. PM me.

Edit: Shit I need to wake up! Since you have the network running, just share a folder with the ISO contents from your laptop and explore the folder with your pc and install/move to it.

FFXI installations don't require images, at worst if you don't want to install ISO creation programs, you can just copy DVD contents over the network to the CD-only machine, and just double click on the setup.exe file in there and it will install.

How do I go about copying the contents across the network?

You need to do a few things on the laptop to get the following to work:

    -Turn Windows Firewall OFF
-Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options, then scroll down to "Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts". Change this to "Classic - local users authenticate as themselves".

Now, find the IP of the laptop (to do this, start menu -> run -> type "cmd" and in the black screen that pops up, type "ipconfig /all" then write down the IP address it gives you. Should be something like 192.168.1.###) and then from the desktop, open up a run prompt and type "\\192.168.1.###\C$" without quotes, this should be the same number as the IP you got before. Also, change the C to whatever drive letter the folder is shared on. It should ask you for a username and password, enter the same as whatever you use to login to your laptop. It should open up and then you're accessing your laptop's files from your desktop.

Sorry this is so complicated but it's the easiest way I could think of.

Re: Re-Installing TOAU/WOTG on CPU that can't read DVDs

I have been messing around the past hour and found a slightly easier way. Thanks though. I basically just changed the workgroup names both to the same name, shared the DVD on the laptop, restarded both computers, went to My Network Places and selected the name I changed the workgroup to, and then the shared DVD was listed. Double clicked set up as Vyvian said and bam...installed it.

Thanks guys for the help. :D
