Anyways, bout time Sony. I'm pretty excited about this.

For those of you who have both systems - do you think you'll be more likely (because of the update) to buy the PS3 version of a game rather than the 360 version, all other things being equal?

I can understand failing for not having it already, but failing for putting it in place? Please don't turn every damn thread about a console into a lolsony lolxbox thread. There are threads for that already, there are forums for that already.

Looks like a good firmware update to me. Much needed, can add more replay value to certain titles. This last month and on looks like a good time to get a ps3 if you were on edge about getting one or always wanted one.

I dont think anyone said it was groundbreaking, even the video with one of the sony developers said that they are finally adding features that their customers have been asking for eg: being able to message friends in game/ and respond in game, being able to play your own music in game or being able to switch from say MGS4 to Echocrome w/o having to get to the menu first. No reason to sound like such an ass, someone is just spreading the news that the updates are coming.

So wait a minute - a thread about a update that by it's very definition puts things in place that were long overdo, and no one can mention the 800-pound gorilla in the room? Yeah, ok. Why even make the post then? I'm not a "fanboi", I own both consoles, but I call things as they see it. Just because there are console wars threads doesn't mean I can't point out that this update, in my opinion, is too little too late to get excited about.

Went to a friend's wedding reception the other day. He introduced me to his brother who works for Sony. Contact from the inside!

Anyway, any update that adds functionality is a good one in my opinion, regardless if MS did it first. Dunno why people have to fuck things up for everyone by pointing out the obvious.

Again, so it's been out for another console for a while already... How is it not exciting for the ps3 anyway? We get a feature we didn't have on our console. We get a feature that we'd have to play another console to use. We get a feature that adds more replay value to games.

You're right, new features aren't exciting. Good logic there.

I think a lot of people chose the 360 over the PS3 for this reason, not expecting Sony to pick up the slack. You had to know Sony would only improve this. This is sony's first real attempt (PS2 didn't really have anything other than online capabilities) at a online network environment with a console, Live was up and kicking with the xbox. They'll learn and adapt. Love the idea behind this, I just hope that other titles of the past (read MGS) add updates that utilize the trophy system. I hope you can stream songs from a media server in-game and don't have to load them on the PS3 HD to play them in-game.

Yeah, agreed. The music would be great since my ps3 is wired to a surround sound system, would be great to use. PSN has always been behind, but we also don't pay for it, so for it to add things like this that are similar to what Live has is really nice. I'll be honest though, I don't use most of the Live features anyway anymore. It almost seems commercialized to me and that it's going to just turn into Advertisement space. So if they don't match toe-to-toe with Live, to me it's really no big deal, but adding features that are win there is win for psn for sure.

I believe that feature also has to be available in the games, so it might be left up to developers.

Considering I own both consoles and would pay for Xbox live regardless of anything the Ps3 has, this question really makes no sense.

What advantages does TVersity have over the media player fileshare? TVersity seemed convoluted and included features I wouldn't really need. Are there any essential features I'm missing out on?

erm, I don't know. TVersity allows radio stations, RSS podcasts, and URLs... does WMP do that?

Also, WMP has to be open to work.

Also, to use playlists for WMP I have to create new ones, since I used iTunes for my on computer music playing.
