    Question about breaksynthing

Hello folks, I recently dinged 88 on clothcraft and I'm looking for the hellish final stretch.
I currently have leather sub @ 55 and goldsmithing around 9. I am not any smarter than the 100’s of people who been there before me, therefore I am seeking for your advice.

Currently on Siren, a stack of G. Bird plumes sells around 80k (that's roughly 6 synths, excluding any breaks).

Rainbow capes should come around 24k per unite, if I craft my own materials.

I hear some people (Raineer, notably) made their way to the high 90's by breaksynthing.

Now the point is: My leather is @ 55 so I can't breaksynth Errant Slops. >< There are a couple recipes that require smithing, and darksteel materials, but now that doesn’t sound any cheaper...The only recipe I could see myself breksynthing on would be Errant Hat. It goes as follow:

    Clothcraft 92, Leathercraft 34 and goldsmithing 21.

Considering the breakrates addup, I assume it would be something like 10 %(?) failure rate from clothcraft, +5 % breakrate from leather and ... 10 %(?) per level bellow the cap for goldsmithing?

I've been asking several crafters I know, but none of them had ever breaksynthed.

So my main question is: how often should I loose only the pearl (GS material) compared to other materials? I’ve hear people saying they saved from 3 to 4 stack of materials. Input from people who’ve breksyhtned on Shrimp Lanterns, patas or any other recipe would be welcome.

The next thing I plan to do is get Goldsmithing around 11 (10 levels bellow the recipe cap), get a stack of each of materials and pray to avoid a complete failure... ><

I thought BG community might have an answer to my question, could point out some things I might have overlooked.

After running a test sample, where most of the materials exept the pearl (Goldsmith material) have been lost, I came to the conclusion that I will just cap goldsmithing to 60 ><><><

I hope this post have been "entertaining"!

    Sorry to continue on..

I've never heard of breaksynthing before that just sounds painful. To be honest.
My philosophy is you farm some of the materials or all the materials then your looking at least a partial payback or at least not too far in the red. To be honest, I would do something like 6 synths a day and then let that stuff sell. Try to think of gross profit per day so go out and farm and make sure you end the day in the green area!

..Or at least not too far in the red..

it's not painful if the loss is less than the not breaking alternative.

Breaksynthed 4(ish) levels of Shrimp Lanterns on my way through GSing. With overwhelming energy, I lost around 45% of the ingredients over those levels. For Shrimp lanterns at least, there was no difference in breakrates for the different ingredients, but that may not be the case for all synths.

Shrimp Lanterns 73 cap Goldsmithing (45 Alchemy, 31 Smithing)

    Levels 69.0-73.0
    Total Synths: 125
    Tin Ingots Lost: 61 (48.8%)
    Beeswax Lost: 54 (43.2%)
    Moblin Putty Lost: 55 (44.0%)
    Moblumin Sheet Lost: 53 (42.4%)

    Total Lost Ingredients 223/500 = 44.6%

I'm more surprised how you managed to farm all those zincites, their drop rate isn't entirely good...

Thanks for your imput Ambir, that's the kind of info I was looking for.

To Dante, that's usually the way I take too. I'd rather do less synth a day, and NPC to break even or something like that. ^^

Actually, with TH2 Zincites dropped about every second Worm. Mob Ingots took a lot longer, but each gave 2 synths...

Having a 75 THF mule is pretty useful levelling GS...

(oh and people do sell zincites for a bout 2k on the AH. Not always there, but definitely worthwhile to keep a track of... probably from BSTs wo sometimes level on the worms)
