    DRG/WHM. . . Gear Selection, Any Advice?

    OK I am looking to improve my gear for solo'ing and I am looking for suggestions.

    My current Gear is:

    Gungnir | Pole Grip | Nothing | Tiphia Sting/Angon
    Drachen Armet +1/Wyrm Armet | Chanoix's Gorget | Assault | Brutal
    Barone Corazza | Dusk Gloves | Raja's | Blitz
    Forager's Mantle | Wrym Belt | Drachen Brais +1 | Dusk Ledelsens

    I am currently working on getting an Ethereal Earring to replace the Assault Earring, and working toward Are's body to replace the Barone.

    I am just looking to see if there is anything else that I have overlooked and/or need to try to replace.

    I know I'm not supposed to say anything since this is the Newbie Section.... but really? You're asking for advice when your current gear is: Gungnir?

    Homam boots for wyvern hp.

    Anyway, it looks okay, you seem to have the essentials. If you don't have a max-hp build work on that, it will save you more than additional +whp gear.

    Homam Manopolas, and Homam Gambieras, boots have wvyern HP+ and more haste so will be a better improvement over dusk. Both pieces also have HP/MP so another perk. Replace the blitz ring with either MP+ if you need it or ACC+ or even Jelly ring, having that 1% haste is not going to help you that much. Just curious, but did you take a break from the game or something? Having a relic weapon, but lacking a decent body piece and Ethereal kinda seems like mixed priorities / .

    Don't forget Wyvern Mail(Bygrid the Sytlist JSE for a big chunk of Wyvern HP+, and for times when you will be focusing on healing but not meleeing, a Wyvern Perch.

    For the last year all I have been doing in game is Limbus and Dynamis, I hope to have the Homam soon, but I am at the mercy of the LS Leader there.

    As far as asking for advice and having gungnir. . . Having Gungnir does not make me have infinite knowledge, and I really enjoy getting opinions of other ppl, often time they offer an opinion that I have overlooked.

    Thanks for the advice, It is appreciated ^^

    no offense but gungnir should be the last piece u should be waiting for before completing ur drg set up. anyway, when i switch to healing breath my macros look like this:

    /ma Barfira <me>
    /console exec cure1.txt
    /wait 1
    /console exec cure2.txt
    /wait 3
    /console exec cure3.txt

    cure1.txt:
    input /equip head "Drachen Armet +1";
    input /equip R.ring "Bomb Queen Ring";
    input /equip back "Gigant Mantle";
    input /equip neck "Chanoix's Gorget";
    input /equip legs "Drn. Brais +1";
    input /equip body "Wyvern Mail";
    input /equip hands "Creek F Mitts";
    input /echo < Mikan <pettp> TP >;

    cure2.txt
    input /equip head "Wym. Armet +1";

    cure3.txt
    input /equip head "Walahra Turban";
    input /equip R.ring "Ulthalam's Ring";
    input /equip hands "Homam Manopolas";
    input /equip neck "Love Torque";
    input /equip legs "Homam Cosciales";
    input /equip back "Amemet Mantle +1";
    input /equip body "Ares's Cuirass";

    now the reason i use 3 sets of macros is that if my barspell gets interrupted windower macros wont take me through the 4 second gear swap. ffxi macros will reset. in cure1.txt im switching to all my HP and wyvern HP + gear. then in cure2 switch to my armet, then in 3 back to tp gear.

    I wouldn't use Homam body with Gungnir, there's no way you need accuracy.

    Get Assault Jerkin, Ares's Cuirass, or worst case scenario go for Askar Korazin (or just buy one from some group that sells them).

    make sure you have enough +mp items (ether ring/loq etc) to cast raise while weakened. Other than that, dd equips all the way.

    why /whm tho unless in nyzul?

    I play DRG/WHM almost exclusively. I carry a ton of situational gear, but there is some standard gear you should have.

    TP/General:
    Valkyrie's Fork/Pole Strap/___/Hedgehog Bomb
    Azkar Zucchetto/Love Torque/Ethereal Earring/Brutal Earring
    Askar Korazin/Homam Manopolas/Raja's Ring/Bomb Queen Ring
    Gigant Mantle/Wyrm Belt/Homam Cosciales/Homam Gambieras

    This set up leaves me with 1565HP/255MP.

    Essentials:
    Kirin's Pole: Spirit Taker
    Angons
    Drachen Armet/+1/Wyrm Armet/+1: Healing Breath, obviously.
    Chiv. Chain: For Staff
    Wyrm Mail: For Call Wyvern

    Situational:
    Dark Staff: Resting MP
    Light Staff: Cure Bomb

    Wyvern Feed

    Wyvern Helm: Extra 30HP
    Homam Zucchetto: Max MP

    WS Gorgets
    Chanoix's Gorget: Wyvern HP

    Homam Corazza: Accuracy
    Drachen Mail/+1: Wyvern Regen
    Crimson Scale Mail: Max MP
    Barone Corazza: Regen

    Wyrm Finger Gauntlets/+1: Wyvern Magical Defense/Accuracy (+1's have MP)
    Drachen Finger Gautlets/+1: I swap to +1's when tanking/solo for the Parry.

    Tav Ring: For GTFO
    Olduum Ring: For GTFO
    Ulthalam's Ring: For when you don't need the HP from BQ.

    Cerb. Mantle: Offensive Back.
    Commander's Cape: Defensive Back

    Forest Rope: ELV only, Max MP

    Drachen Brais/+1: ACC and Max Healing Breath
    Crimson Cuisses: For GTFO

    Askar Gambieras: For No Wyvern.

    The "Max MP" gear i usually wear when resting or to force Sanction/Sigil Refresh to take effect. I actually carry a lot more gear than what i have listed here, but these are the pieces that are more commonly used than others.

    I have to agree with one of the above posters though, for all the effort, time, and money involved in getting Gungnir, you're missing some other pretty important, easier to obtain, pieces.

    1st gap I noticed was Bomb Queen Ring, I'm only level 61 DRG (elvaan) and I love having the higher HP trigger% point. At 60 DRG/30BLU I was chain 4 on vt colibiri, chain 5 if a random T spawned or I had TP left over after Chain 4. Chain 4 402, Chain 5 385, no ring, just sanction bonus, was great

    that being said, I of course can't use Wyrm Armet for the 75% HP trigger so Bomb Queen Rign may be less of an immediate concern for you

    and yeah, I kinda o_O'd at gungnir and asking for gear advice at first but I'm guessing you didn't have to /mage much and are now branching into that aspect of it

    Wyrm Armet does not provide a 75% HP trigger. Wyrm Armet actually lowers the HP trigger back down to 33% from the Drachen/+1's 50%. The Wyrm Armet increases the potency of Breath Healing/Attacks, which is why the Healing Breath macro starts with Drachen (50% Activation) and then immediately swaps to Wyrm (Increased Potency).

    It's nice to keep one or two high HP items around so if you find yourself at say, 51% HP, you can equip it, drop yourself to 50%, and get another HB. A Max HP set, combined with the Drachen Armet +1, also means that you're going to be getting the best possible returns on Spirit Link.

    If you refer to Ruke's Thread on body comparisons, due to the 2.5% chance of Triple Attack on Homam, if you are DRG/SAM, you will still obtain a 5 hit + 5 hit Penta thrust to 100% TP.

    In terms of gear, a lot of good recommendations have been posted here. Let me expand.

    Your 'killing' gear determines on what you're fighting. If it's something small, not hard hitting, just stick with your basic TP gear. Take the damage and kill it faster, no big deal.

    If you're killing something that's actually difficult, you have options. Foremost, I recommend /BLU over /WHM for soloing. Cocoon's defense boost gives you a defense that rivals PLDs. In terms of gear, you have two options: Defense, or Parrying.

    DRGs have a ton of parrying gear. If I'm not mistaken, we have access to more parrying gear than any other job. I don't think this allows us to get the highest parrying of any job due to our natural cap, but we can still pimp it out pretty rediculously.

    So now that we have your gear down, it's time to discuss the mechanics of the healing breath. There are 3 phases to the breath: Activation, the usage, and the reset back to norm.

    Phase 1
    Foremost, we need to /activate/ the healing breath. On /WHM or /BLU, the activation point is 50% of your max HP if you're using the AF helm. Therefore, the goal is to increase your max HP as high as you can to activate the breath.

    The problem: The potency of the breath is dependant on max wyvern HP, and increasing the max wyvern HP takes about 3 seconds due to server lag / mechanics / whatnots. Therefore, for this first phase, we also want to pimp out our wyvern's HP wherever possible. This is the current gear setup I use when I activate the healing breath.

    Slot: Remove Tiphia Sting and put on Angon (+25HP)
    Head: Drachen Armet (Required)
    Neck: Chanoix's Gorget (Wyvern HP+50)
    Ear1: Loquais Earring (Fast Cast)
    Ear2: Cassie Earring (+50HP)
    Body: Wyvern Mail (Wyvern HP +65)
    Hands: Ostreger Mitts (Wyvern HP+10... Not required, but a nice little bonus)
    Ring1: Bomb Queen Ring (HP +75)
    Ring2: Preferably Bloodbead Ring (HP+50)... but I don't have one ; ;
    Back: Gigant Mantle (HP+80)
    Waist: If your RSE belt has +HP, use that
    Legs: Drachen Brais +1 (Wyvern HP +15%)
    Feet: Homam Coscailas (sp? Wyvern HP+50)

    In total:
    HP+280 (assuming you're using Tiphia Sting). Wyvern HP +175+15%

    Wear this gear for when your spell completes casting.

    Phase 2
    Congrats, your wyvern is now constipated with energy and healing puke. Now is the time to swap in your wyrm helm.

    Wyrm Helm increases the potency of breaths by 66.67%. Saurian Helm increases breaths by approximately 57.75%. Here is the working equation for the healing breath formula:

    FLOOR(0.1757*(Drachen Brais Bonus + Wyvern XP Bonus + 1)*(Helm Bonus + Wyvern TP Bonus + Deep Breathing Bonus + 1)*(Wyv. HP + Wyv +HP gear)+42)

    Keep all gear the same as the above macro except swap in whatever helm you want. You need the helm in there to get that helm bonus, and you need to leave on the +Wyvern HP gear til the completion of the breath.

    Phase 3
    After the breath has gone off... swap back into your normal gear. You're good to continue!

    If you have any questions regarding DRG gear or style, don't hestitate to send me a PM.
