And SE wonders why the Adventurer Recruitment fails...

So I got this e-mail from Blizzard today, since I had a WoW account for a while & didn't opt out of their promotional list (aka spam):

I mean...the Sprout/Guide Beret is all well and good...while your friend is below 50. And uh...the little airship thingie is kinda cool...and I guess you can get some old event items...

But I'll gladly swap any of those for increased experience, free experience/levels, and a free non-class based summon D:

Impressive. They aren't afraid to bring out the big guns to get more subscribers. Wonder how many comments it'll be until someone pulls the "They must be desperate, WoW is a dead game!" line.

Regardless, SE could learn a lot from how Blizz treats their customers, even though they have improved a bit recently.

After reading the fine print it's really not that impressive unless you are both leveling accounts together and you stay at or around the same level as your recruit.

its easy for ppl like me, whos brothers have quit Xi for WoW and have 3 char's @ 70 and are looking for some fun with lower lvl accounts, so if I start to play I can level up with them since one of the drawbacks is that my work pc's won't allow POL to connect but they do allow WoW to connect..

I'd say that triple experience is a pretty good motivation to do just that. Have you ever played a MMO with RL friends? It's really not that hard, particularly in WoW where you can level so damn fast already.

I play with several RL friends, and it's not exactly that easy either. When you factor in school, jobs, and other things people do besides play video games, you don't always get in a whole lot of leveling time.

Yeh I'd agree with this. I've had friends play and quit but I mean if we had the exp thing it might have been a little different. If you play your cards right the triple exp thing is nice though, but it only works if the quests aren't grey to both characters and if you are either the same level otherwise only the lower level gets the triple exp. As far as the level per 2 levels thing, that is also cool and is a good way to keep people around the same level or so if you can save it up and allocate them as needed.

So yeah it's great, but it sounded a lot better before I knew the details is all I'm saying.

Only drawback I can see to this is the "rep" factor that's so essential, especially in OL. Leveling 3x faster is great, but it's gonna mean more grinding once you get 70 in order to get caught up on the rep grind.

And I definantly agree that lv'ing w/ rl friends makes things slower... usually I'm the one holding my friends back because I don't get more than a few hrs & few days of the week to play, so this type of an incentive is nice. But I always have found it more enjoyable to play w/ friends, so it's worth it

Meh, some of the issues you guys have brought up mirror one of the other features I'd kill for SE to steal from another MMO.

If anybody here is familiar with City of Heroes' Sidekick/Exemplar system, you know what the fuck is up.

Basically, in FFXI terms, sidekicking would be you on your 75 job telling your level 20 noob friend "Hey, you're going to come to Nyzul with me.", then their stats growing as though they were 75. Don't get new job abilities, weapon skills, or anything like that. Just hard number stats.

Exemplar's the opposite. You're feeling a little nostalgic, and that same 20 friend is leveling in Qufim while your Maat's Cap wearin' ass is sitting around LFP for merits because everybody knows people with Maat's Cap have gimp gear. So you decide to grab some level 20 gear, and go to Qufim because your shit will get capped to level 20. It'd be like leveling in Promyvion, but with a lot less suck and /yawn.

If anyone needs a recommendation hit me up. I won't be able to level with you, and I'll just be using you for free stuff, but why not!
