    First Ouryu

    Hi everyone!
As the title suggests, my ls is going to attempt its first Ouryu Cometh. Searching I found some good infos in this thread: http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showt...ouryu+strategy but it's dated 2006, so I wanted to ask if that's still the best way to do it.

I'm mostly concerned with the tanking, if sleeping on the ground is still the best way to do it (at least for an unexperienced group) what's the best subjob for the tanks? Also what's a good overall alliance setup and a good strategy?

    Thanks in advance.

ES sleep rotation on ground, in air switch to MDB or resist set, whatever you want. Ice and wind nukes, first few times should take ~30min mark.

Ouryu isn't that bad if you have BLMs that are fast to ES Sleep 2 it. Tank-wise PLD/anything NIN/DRK and RDM/NIN both work fine. I know some people like to make an Earth resist rig for this if they are tanking. Make sure you have a competent WHM in the tank party to get Barspells up. As long as you do that his damage is rather weak in the air. BLMs should make an ES Sleep 2 order and Sleep only on the ground. I suggest for your first time that you have the BLM who's turn it is not damage it in the air and focus more on Sleeping it asap when Ouryu comes down. Also you should have a couple BRDs on Sleep duty for adds. I'd have at least one of the the RDMs outside of the tank party /BST if they have it to charm worm adds. WHM/BST also works nicely.

typically my LS does the sleeping on the ground nuke and smn burn in the air

i have always subbed nin(PLD) i usually carry around ichi ninja debuff tools and spam them for a little extra hate on when its sleeping and i tank it with a long time in game buddy and we have very few issues. I have though been working on finishing my rdm sub since if you have competant sleepers it is probably a more effective sub for this method then nin.

you can use either an earth resist setup or a max magic damage reduction setup for when its in the air

i use a full earth resist (about 146 e.resist in gear alone plus i leave my D.ring equipped for it). I take between 9 and 35 damage a hit when hes in the air.
usually we have good rdms and brds control the adds and after a few sleeps we usually have blms take some time and nuke down the elemental adds as they can begin to resist sleep.
i hope this info helps (BTW my LS has in the past has done a lot of ouryus so thats why i took the time to build a full earth resist setup, you can get away with a -magic damage reduction gear build if you want)

PLD/RDM, PLD/DRK, PLD/WAR. PLD/NIN isn't necessary if you're sleeping on the ground. Have the tanks bring full shield gear for when it lands, full enmity AND magic damage reduction for the air (or at least 130-150 earth resist). For PLDs, Lamia mantle +1, Lamian Kaman +1, Merman's Earrings/Rings, and all of the currently implemented Iron Ram Gear (including Lance) will curb damage to about 110-120 per hit, which makes tanking it in the air a breeze.

Make sure to have a Sleep rotation, and make sure the BLM who is up is out of range of possible AoEs such as Breakga and Terrorga. As long as your WHMs are decent and your RDMs are good at holding adds, the fight is a breeze.

Just curious while the subject is up, how do you generally handle the worms/elementals?

Was also about to ask this same question lol. I assume the /bst someone suggested is to take care of the worms, but how many worms/elementals does he pop at a time?

Edit: I assume a blm heavy alliance is required, but is there any space for melees? And if there is, what's their job supposed to be, tping on worms? If they get TPs on worms, when are they supposed to use them on Ouryu? (sorry for all the questions lol)

We have a red mage handle sleeping the elementals until they resist too much at which point they are killed by the BLMs, while the worms that get too close are killed by the melee during the flight phase to build TP.

Edit: There are 1 each of earth and water elemental, and ~4 worms I think? At any rate, the red mage will probably have his hands full sleeping, so make sure that the melees are either really self-sufficient or have someone to help with the curing.

if you haul ouryu to one of the sides of his square island, only 2 worms should bother you. both brd and bst can charm them. if you have the option, rdm/bst (if they have bst at 75) makes an excellent option to mitigate them. since they're DCish, even w/o the +charm gear you get on bst main, you can keep them charmed for a good long while. elementals you just keep napping for a while, then kill when they get somewhat sleep resistant. they feed MP nicely to the blm army.

Often I repose/silence them on WHM (I'm usually in tank pt), but really anyone can just kept them slept or silenced. Usually just kinda depends where they positioned and whoever closest to them who can silence/sleep them I guess.

WHM/bst or RDM/bst would work as well for charming them or probably some sort of other job /bst. WHM & RDM is a good choice because you still get stoneskin (which is super helpful on this fight) and you would be able to charm, compared to a job like BRD/bst (which would then have no stoneskin).

But really who wants to lvl /bst for their WHM for this bc >.>. Silencing/Reposing/Sleeping them works fine too.

Is a pretty easy BC after you done it a few times.

We use 2 nin/drk to hold the eles and aspir them dry, and bring either rdm/bst or a couple melee to kill the worms.

People have already posted on tanking, so I'll just state that PLD/RDM (or /DRK), NIN/DRK and RDM/NIN have performed pretty equally for us over dozens of Ouryus. Go with whatever tanks you are most comfortable with.

A good beginner Ouryu alliance setup is something like:
    PLD/PLD/WHM/WHM/RDM/BRD
    BLMX4, BRD, RDM
    BLMX3, RDM, THF, random melee

You can do it with less, you can do it faster with other setups, but I'd say that one is pretty foolproof for beginners. Have an ES sleep order made out amongst the BLMs, and have them nuke with Wind and Blizzard while not dying. One RDM should control the eles, with backup from the other non-tank party RDM if necessary. Just Sleep II them, and then call for burn on next land when they start to resist. Have the THF and random melee keep worms dead, and at one point let the THF wake him up with SA + WS to put some TH on it. Easy Ouryu kill.

Also, cor are ridiculously awesome for ouryu. We swap one between blm party and tank party.

COR is an absloute beast in this BC.

Tank Tank BRD WHM WHM RDM/bst
    COR BLMx5 party
COR BLMx4 (Ele/Worm holder slot here)

The Macc + Mab bonus that COR gives your BLMs will allow you to force Ouryu out of the sky before she gets off 0-1 TP moves, even with some basic geared BLMs. Before we used COR we would eat at least 2 TP moves an Air Cycle, but after we were able to force Ouryu down extreamly fast, and COR can always Sleep worms/Eles in an emergency, and thier shots should be doing 300-400 in the air.

If you have this type of setup you generaly dont need to burn out the Eles or Worms also as they will not build enough sleep resistance before Ouryu is dead.

Tank Tank BRD WHM WHM RDM/bst
    COR BLMx5 party
COR BLMx4 (Ele/Worm holder slot here)
    We generally use...

2x tank, BRD, BRD, RDM, WHM
    BLM x4, SCH, COR
    BLM x4, SCH, COR

SCH is broken for this fight. Broken on so many goddamn levels. Klimaform and MACC roll from a COR mean you can nuke in practically full MAB/INT gear with no resists--especially with Threnody up.

Adds are handled by ignoring them 'till they aggro. At that point, simply silence the worms and use them as Aspir batteries. Elementals are dragged next to Ouryu, and the BLM burn them down with sync-nuked Blizzaga3's.

Seems like the easiest way is with a shitton of BLM's / SCH's, but unfortunately my linkshell is lacking in that department, anyone do this with more than melees to just hold the aggro? And what would be the minimum number of BLM's in order to successfully beat this fight, I don't care if its fast just want a win.

2 blm could probably do it.

We won with 4 in 40 minutes easily.

This is true - RDM/BST handles this situation well while BRD/BST does not (no Stoneskin or Cures).

And tank party BRD in our setup was giving March/Carol, plus they were getting Barstonra from WHM of course.

Also keep Ice/Wind Threnody on - he doesn't resist it much at all.

We need to try SCH next run, last time we did a batch of Ouryu's SCH was just introduced.
