    XBox Live & College Internet

I just moved on to my college campus and there is wireless internet and wired internet in every dorm room. I know there have been other threads about this, but I searched them and couldn't find anything that helped my situation (sorry!). I'm starting to think I'm just SOL.

Both XBox Live and FFXI are blocked when using the wireless internet, but FFXI does work when I use my wired internet through an ethernet jack in my room. XBox Live still won't work even with the wired internet.

Is there any way around this? Routers aren't really allowed. I tried using wireless internet on my laptop then using an ethernet cord to connect my laptop and my 360, but that didn't work. XBox Live said my MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) test failed.

I'd be more than happy to provide more information if someone thinks they can help.

    Thanks BG!

The faggot that is running the internet at your college probably has XBL's ports blocked or he didn't set it up right.

Speaking from OSU's Wireless, I know you have to 'register' your system with them before you can play online in the dorms, so that might be worth checking out. They might have some way you need to setup your system for access. More than likely you could also be screwed, if your college is large and the dorms are huge (i.e. OSU) XBOX Live lags like hell anyway so you might not want to bother.

Another option is contacting a local cable company and getting cable internet. It's what I do for my college apartment since the internet here blows balls.

Look for the IT part of your schools website. I know when I'm on campus I have to register my PCs/Laptop/360 MAC addresses so they can work properly. Sometimes there is a limit to how many things can be registered. I just cheat though and clone my PCs' MAC address onto the router so I won't have to register anything else.

Unfortunately 360 Lags like a mofo. Those Halo 3 matches on campus are not fun.
