I'll pay you $1000 to have you snipped

    http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2...n_plan_fi.html
Worried that welfare costs are rising as the number of taxpayers declines, state Rep. John LaBruzzo, R-Metairie, said Tuesday he is studying a plan to pay poor women $1,000 to have their Fallopian tubes tied.
    I am all for it!

makes sense. some women might not want children anyway, and will view it as birth control with a plus.

Good idea, if they offer it to everyone and not just poor people. Population growth is way too high globally.

Would actually make more sense to offer it to men I would have thought, men are usually sluttier than women.

Yeah but maybe they are trying to pull the argument that there are more women that need the money than men due to single mothers and such.

Would make sense for them to offer it to both, but I could understand women getting more money for it then a guy would.

Why do they need more money to be single mothers if they're getting their tubes snipped?

The article is a little bit disturbing. He wants incentives for rich white folk to have kids, and incentives for poor untermenschen to not have 'em. Smells a bit like eugenics.

I didn't read the article, just commented on the quote in the OP. If it's suggesting something like Obev says, wow.

    That's exactly what it's suggesting.

I actually heard about this on the news while I was sleep, but I thought it was a dream, partially because it seemed so rediculous. I can't believe it's real.

I didn't read it either, was just replying to shue. I didn't mean they'd have kids after having tubes tied... i meant there could be the argument that women need more money than men in lower income environments cause many of those women have kids already and don't have husbands or boyfriends to support them.

What's the actual cost of Hospital Bills for that particular procedure?
Would $1000 even cover the charges?

I assumed he meant they'd pay for the proceedure AND give you $1000 dollars, but I could be wrong.

    Edit:

My mom had her tubes tied after her fourth kid, so it does make sense that insurance covers it or that there are cheaper ways (otherwise I don't think she could afford it)

I think he means that single mothers will be more likely to do it after their first kid, preventing a second.

Beats having things the other way around. As long as it's optional and not required I really think it's a good idea - "rich white folk" are being given the same offer as everyone else.

This is social engineering. It's trying to cut down welfare costs by getting rid of poor people.

Why not just offer birth control?

"Rich white folks" are being given tax incentives to have more children.

Also, I think the reason this is targeting women as opposed to being equal between men and women is because steralizing women does more for population control than steralizing men.

And this relates to the 'selling organs' thread. Only poor people will do it.
    This is a dumb idea.

It also goes after women because of the welfare queen stereotype and the fact that single parents drawing welfare are more often women.

if you were bottom of the barrel poor, you might reconsider for a thousand dollars. they're not forcing anyone to do anything, merely presenting an option to prevent government spending in the long haul, and help out women before they get themselves into a worse financial situation.
