    Level 70 tanking gear

I've been speed grinding my way to 70, and I've been grinding as a retribution pally. I've been wanting to dual spec so I can tank, but I don't have any gear, except one shield. Granted, it's a decent shield, but I don't even have a one-hander. Any help?

Most of the low 70's dungeons don't have shit for tanking gear, and I can't find any quests that really have it, so I don't really know what to do to assemble some gear.

On my Dk I just took every tanking reward I could from quests and dungeon quests while grinding as blood from 70-80 then when I dinged 80 I had a solid base to push for the def cap. When I dinged 80 I was at about 515 def rating so a few craftables and some gems put me to the def cap. Once you hit 80 run HC UP as much as possible to get the Red Sword of Courage (make sure the tank doesn't need it before you run). Theres a quest in HoS to get some semi-decent pre-raid shoulders. HC VH drops some nice legs from the final boss.

You don't exactly have to stack Defense Rating or anything to tank as you level since everything is roughly your level anyway...just use pieces that make sense for tanking stats.

You don't really get much chance to get tanking gear as you level, it's really frustrating, but I guess with DPS + holy pally plate in that "quest reward slot" they didn't want to shove all sorts of tanking loot in there too.

Some good tanking loot can be found though:
Zul'drak Ragemane quest, you get to choose between 3 tanking weapons, I think I chose the mace. It's pretty much the best tanking weapon until heroic UK/UP.
Grizzy Hills, Ursoc the Bear God questline, believe it gives tanking legs and a shield.
Nexus quest from the Transitus shield, good shoulders that are basically on par with Supremus shoulders from BT (only reason I didn't upgrade to them was I had a shoulder enchant on my Supremus ones)

Along with those basically just get the crafted BS gear and run with it. As it was said, you don't really need excessive tank gear to tank early stuff and normal dungeons and by the time you reach heroics you should be able to reach uncrittable through the above listed items and a full set of crafted BS gear, although it's expensive.

It sucks that you can't gear for prot as you level because I leveled as prot the whole way and I only missed realm first pally because I got lazy and stopped midway, I was leveling as fast as the other guy (and was slightly ahead for a bit). And the best way to be a good tank is to tank a lot, you want to get used to your abilities and your keybinds because you can't be looking at your action bars much while tanking.

I just whipped this up quick in Wowhead. It's not perfect but it should give you some guidance.

I tried the dual spec thing with my warrior and carry two sets of gear 'just in case.'

I still get more invites as Fury. Don't break the bank trying to cap your defensive gear at every level. As a paladin you'll probably get asked twice as often to heal than tank.

There's a good reason there isn't much tanking gear from instances: It blows to have to farm it while your DPS get all their drops and leave you. Quests/crafted are the way to go.

Buy the cobalt set from a blacksmith. That will get you covered in 8 slots. Plenty of stam/str/defense to start tanking with.

I did in fact get a friend who made me the cobalt set. Works just fine.

On a different note, anybody know of an addon that'll change my gear around when I change talent sets?
