Sam Overwhelm Positioning

Hello thar, long time lurker, etc.

Was just wondering about the positioning needed for overwhelm to trigger while WSing on larger mobs.

On mobs with bigger modules -- Cerb Hydra Faf and such, for overwhelm to work, do I have to position my char right into the center of the mob where the mouth is? Or is staying on the foot/claw area perfectly fine?
Also, if i do a gear swap and ended up dislocated with my face facing away from mob while WSing, does overwhelm still work?

I'm not a SAM so i can not confirm this, but from my understanding Overwhelm should have the same range as sneak attack or trick attack. Maybe say 15-25% either side of the center of the mobs face?

it says face to face, but I experience big numbers on HNM's from just standing on the feet.
