It was a much better book than The DaVinci Code.
And it was written before The DaVinci Code iirc
edit: I'll go check my bookshelf, I think I still have Angels and Demons in Hardback.
Editx2: Angels and Demons was written in 2000, can't find my copy of The DaVinci Code. Think I loaned it out and it never was returned.
I agree with Tyche. Better more fascinating book than Da Vinci code and definitely not a sequel.
It was better, it was written years before the Da Vinci Code, and it's not really "Da Vinci Code II" in any possible meaning of the phrase. The two aren't related plot-wise at all, they just share the same main character and world. It's been a while since I read the Da Vinci Code, but I don't even remember passing references to the events in Angels & Demons, so it's possible that they're intended to be more parallel universes than prequel/sequel in the traditional sense.
I loved both, and thought the movie for Da Vinci was good when compared to other book-> movie adaptations. Looking forward to seeing this.
It'll probably be a sequel in movie chronology. Same main character (different chick). Is this the one that had the whole CERN and LHC references, or was that the DaVinci Code? It's been a while since I've read them.
IMDB says 15 may 2009 release date =/
Angels & Demons got absolutely fucking retarded towards the end. They're either going to have to change pretty much everything about it or this is going to be the most ridiculous movie of next year.
hmm.. i wonder if they'll do filming in the LHC what with all that "anti matter" they're producing these days...
I found both stories to be terribly similar.
Spoiler: show
A&D overall had a more fleshed out story. I always thought it would make for a better movie than DaVinci.
Well with that much of an over simplification you could argue that there are a lot more movies and books out there that are terribly similar.
The individual elements when compared are very different between each story even though they may follow a similar formula which is used by almost all murder/mystery/thriller books and movies.
All I remember is that he saves the pope :s I do think i remember a reference in The DaVinci Code to the Vatican honoring him or whatnot.
CALL THE VATICAN OSHI
I did over simplify, but those were not the only similarities.
Spoiler: show
I'm sure there are others, but it's been awhile. I just remember reading the Davinci code and thinking I just read Angels a second time.
Except the first set of similarities are similarities amongst most murder/mystery books and movies which is why I said over simplification. Your next three similarities are unique to those two books so I will agree with those.
Though as stated they are by the same author, with the same main character. Invariably they will have strong similarities I still do not think that makes them the same though.
All of Dan's Brown books share a very similiar plot structure and character types, even those not with this main character, but Angels and Demons was better then Da Vinci Code. It was about CERN, also theres a few passing references to it in Da Vinci Code but nothing really important, he just reminisces about the first chick iirc.
Angels and Demons was definitely the better book.
