The impalin' palin thread got me wondering, is the porn industry doomed to failure? There can't be any money in it. Afterall, you can find all the free porn you want on the internet, do enough people actually buy memberships to keep the industry afloat?

My first thought was advertising, since there are porn link sites with tons of ads on them. But the actual porn sites themselves have no ads, when you're sifting through the preview vids... unless I was too distracted to notice them, in which case, advertisers should know better than to pay to advertise on porn sites where nobody will notice the ads.

So what keeps porn in business, and will it one day no longer be profitable? Will we one day be denied free porn?

Porn industries have begun to cater to the female audience w/prefers story-oriented porn. And from what I have heard... most of the newer [industry] porn actually has a some-what passable story & acting (yes, I know this will be open to debate - but it's much improved) as a direct response to the female audience. So long as people have the natural urges, this will never go away.

Brothels / Selling one's own body is one of the oldest industry known to mankind, so if it hasn't worn out after thousands of years, it's not gonna wear out soon.

I think it's a good thing that porn is getting overexposed, if anything people will become desensitised to it and enjoy more intimate sex rather than watching a trashy DVD again.

I think there is still an older generation of people who dont bother with online porn and still frequent adult book stores. Some people just never bothered with learning the computer and are too far stuck in their ways.

When this generation gets older, it might be a different story. I still think the porn industry will be alive and kicking though.

I had a friend give me his info for Brazzers.com which is a really good porn site if you've got membership (which i wasn't willing to pay for) All movies are mostly 30minutes or more. However there's a site out there called boysfood. Just google boysfood and 90% of the clips uploaded are from brazzers.

My girlfriend was extremely happy when she found out I had access to the actual brazzers site because she really likes the ones with stories.

Porn costs almost nothing to produce and distribute. With such a low bottom line it probably doesn't matter if only 1 in 500 that view your product pay for it.

Also they make a lot selling porn to hotel cable services.

I remember reading that the porn industry in California is x5 times larger than the Hollywood film industry. I think a lot of people pay for porn and I don't think that it is going to change anytime soon. I think that people just don't like to admit that they pay for porn.

You have to also figure there are guys who fall hard for a particular girl or fetish. Like one girls website with different sets can make beauceau bucks from obsessive men.

There's also people that just have money for that shit that don't want to deal with the riff raff of free porn or just may not be as resourceful as we are.

It's like music, when Napster and Limewire came out people thought "music industry is dead." But people still buy CD's, even with the iTunes store and iPods and such. There's enough porn out there worth paying for, and people willing to pay for it. The shit we see for free on a daily basis may be enough for us to kill a couple hundred potential babies on a daily basis, but alot of moneys worth of people are willing to pay for much more.

Also, alot of the shit we see for free someone paid for, downloaded, and shared via image upload sites or messageboards. Chew on that for a minute.
