and I spent $200 more on a 32'' Vizio less than a year ago... Damn.
Looks like a nice find to me.
Recuperi has that one I think. I know it's a 32 inch aquos and I think the price was somewhat close to that. The few times I've been over his house, it seems like a really good TV for the price. I'd get a plasma if you're putting it in a bedroom though. He was going to get a plasma, but couldn't find one small enough to fit where he needed.
Plasma's in my experience look a lot better. But I think the smallest I've ever seen in a plasma is 37". I would stay away from Sharp, I had their 46" Aquos and had terrible banding issues (look it up on AVSForums). It took about a year of yelling at their customer service and I got a refund for the original price. Bought a Panasonic plasma, and it looks a 100 times better.
Plasma only beats LCD in three areas: motion blur, black shading, and low-lighting conditions. LCD is better everywhere else, including shelf life.
Unless of course you get a dead pixel. Which sucks.
I have a 46" Sharp Aquos LCD, but I got the 64 series, no banding issues like the cheaper 52 and 62 series models. The older models had those issues, not so much anymore. I wouldn't worry about that. If going LCD, I'd reccommend going sharp or samsung. The pictures on both of those are amazing. I love a plasma for a bedroom because of the rich colors and response time. There's no "120hz vs 64hz" response time crap to deal with with plasma. The contrast ratios are great and the blacks are black. Only downside (or was when I was buying) was issues in rooms with a lot of light. My living room has a large bay window, so it wasn't feasible for me at the time. Bedrooms don't typically have this issue. Vizio makes a 32" plasma and it looks amazing. Don't let brand names and reputations handcuff your choice. Look at specific models of a particular brand names. As the other poster said, sharp made a few shitty models in their older LCDs, but their other models are amazing. Same for samsung and vizio, and even sony.
I'm currently using Time Warner's service, with one of their HDMI boxes. I've also got a PS3 for Blu-Ray. I can easily say that this television looks so much better than the Sharp I had. The quality is so much better, I would never go back to an LCD.
I'd love to get the HD satellite, but I'll have to wait till we move so I can get a good signal.
Tyche, I had the 62 series, which I think they mentioned that the 64 was finally clear of those issues. I just had such a bad experience dealing with Sharp's customer service that I wouldn't buy another product from them.
The thing that ticks me off is that there is no price difference between 26" and 32" models. 32" is probably going to be ridiculous size for my bedroom, but the miser in me is thinking why should I pay the same price for a smaller TV?
I'd say we easily spend 90% of our tv watching time in our family room. The only time we watch TV in our bedroom is right before bed and in the morning when both of us are getting ready for work, and if we have a disagreement on what do watch one of us go in the bedroom and watch.
That being said, I'm not so much concerned about quality here, as the PS3 will be hooked up to the bigger TV downstairs.
I worked at an appliance store (that was failing horribly) for like 2 months a couple years ago. I'm a much bigger fan of LCD tvs because they are more durable, and they are less "situational" then a plasma. You will get a better picture from a plasma, but I hope you don't have an open curtain or anything.Originally Posted by kuronosan

By the way, I just bought a new Samsung 32" for $499, and now I feel cheated. This seems like a good deal.
if it's just for your bedroom i really wouldn't worry too much about it. just get the best picture/cheapest price ratio and roll with it. sharp's older tv's were absolute shit and their customer service is terrible...but the newer models are pretty good. samsung/sony have some amazing lcd's if you're going to be upgrading in the living room, but i wouldn't spend that kind of money just for the bedroom.
there are a few brands that make 32" plasma's...although the lowest price i saw was mid 500's...so you're prolly better off with that sharp, price-wise.
Any good 32" 1080p deals around? I could use a cheap one for my bedroom, and 32" is all that's going to fit in my armoire. I'm thinking of hooking my laptop up to it, too, and using a bluetooth keyboard from my bed.
I have a Samsung 720p 32" I got a while back as a replacement for my fried TV and I love it. For my HD Programming, it's just so clean.
I don't know i kinda hate plasmas when ever i see one, they look to dark in my opinion. if you only watch sports and movies they are a viable option, but latly the higer model lcd are looking better and better. a 40" samsung a650 is relatively cheap and looks awesome, atm thats the TV im going for. 50,000:1 contrast ratio and 120hz and at best buy its goign for 1,399 which isn't to bad. if you are looking smaller like a 32" you don't neccessarily need a 1080p i find it doesn't make a huge diff between 1080p and 720p on the smaller modells and 1080p on a 32" sometimes comes near the price of a 40" 1080p weird but true. especially since most companies barely make cost on a 32" tv.
The only 1080p 32" models i've seen are:
Sharp Aquos $795
Toshiba REGZA $700
Panasonic VIERA $900
Samsung ToC $900
Vizio $547 @ Sam's Club
When I was looking over black friday, I could only find the Toshiba & Vizio - but I decided to wait to see what happens after xmas in terms of prices. The toshiba was on sale for $580 over BF though, guess it was a good deal, though I'm not sure how it would compare to the similarly priced Vizio.
I bought a pair of 46' Samsung 1080p 120 htz, series 7 LCD's this year and I love them, their perfect for gaming, sports, blu ray movies etc.
I had plasma's before and hated them, love my LCD's.
I bought a 1080p LCD 42" Sharp Aquos 2 years ago, cost me 1800 lol...
And you're right, plasmas suck for gaming (I think they suck in general, but that's just my opinion..) Definitely LCD all the way.
I have the 37 inch iirc, dont really feel like measuring but the picture is nice and crisp
