    Power issue HLEP

So yeah, the power company cut off electricity for the area to repair it and when it came back on I waited a few minutes before turning on my PC.

    Boom

The the case flashed white like when a transformer blows up and my PSU is dead.

I only have a 140W PSU available and I tried it to see if anything would work, and the CPU and GPU fans both kicked on. But my problem is I can't turn off the PC..

So I'm wondering if this is due to the 140W PSU not giving enough power to my system and the board can't send the kill signal or is my board damaged? Well, just the most likely scenario since I can't buy another PSU until tomorrow to try for myself. But yeah, I even tried using the power button on the board itself, it doesn't work. The onboard reset doesn't either. None of the LEDs work, so I'm thinking it just is severely under powered. I'm just going to be really pissed if I have to spend as much in replacing parts as it took to build the system because of the fucking power company, not even the weather.

It sounds like a surge blew out some of the capacitors on the PSU and probably fried the motherboard too. If you can take the motherboard out, see if anything on it looks or smells like burnt electronics. If it does your board is probably toast. If not, replace your PSU and see if you can get any life out of the board. I'd say it's a long shot at this point. See if you can salvage your video card/RAM/processor.

So I got a new PSU and everything is fine. It turns out that the theory about the other PSU not supplying enough power to send a kill signal was most likely correct, but everything works as it did before. Dodging bullets here. <_>

Grats! I'm in the process of needing a new PSU. On startup everything says that its been lowered because of insufficient power due to the PSU going bad.
