Connecting TV to Computer question

Ok here is what I got:

Back of my computer has only 2 DVI connections. There is no VGA slot.

Back of Monitor: 1 DVI and 1 VGA slot

Back of TV: Has a VGA slot, but no DVI slot.

Can I hookup the back of the monitor to the TV via VGA-to-VGA and just change the source on my monitor?

If not, what is the best possible way, if any, for me to get this to work?

Short answer is No.

All those sources go IN not OUT

you need a dvi -> vga adapter which comes with most newer-ish video cards, and I'm sure you can buy one.

Also if your tv has hdmi, it's worth buying a dvi to hdmi cable, or a dvi to hdmi adapter and an hdmi cable.

I just bought one of these today, but I am not sure what I would use it for in this case? Any more help is appreciated. New to the TV thing. Just got a 46" Samsung and I wanted to check it out as a computer monitor

well, your computer monitor has nothing to do with this. You can't do some kind of signal pass through without a secondary device or a very special monitor which is unlikely.

Basically your options go like this:

PC-DVI ---> TV-HDMI (Using dvi to hdmi cable)
PC-VGA ---> TV-VGA (using male to male cable I believe)

The first one will give you a better picture

Ok, so the Philips HDMI/DVI Conversion cable I just bought is all I need to get my PC and TV connected?

Basically, just put the DVI in the back of the computer and the HDMI into the TV and select the HDMI source?

Basically yes, but you may need to enable the secondary monitor (tv) under your graphics card control panel, then set up the proper resolution and stuff which would probably be 1920x1080.

what kind of TV do you have? if it's a plasma i'd be VERY cautious about how you use it to avoid burning in an image. if you have an LCD or DLP, go wild. you can't burn anything into it to my knowledge.

just got myself a 40" samsung today got it hooked up to my pc now <3 it hehe^^

picture looks pretty good just the purple text in game dosent look purple.But everything eles looks amazing and that problem is only with text and only in FFXI idk y lol

Only con I've found so far is that text looks slightly off.Witch for firefox was a simple fix just up the min font size and it looks just as good as my monitor.But for FFXI I am kinda at a loss no idea how to fix it but i can live with it game is amazing on here^^

If you find the text is displayed a bit weird on your TV, be sure to oversample your display through your graphics card's driver software.

I personally use my 32" LCD TV as my primary monitor and my LCD projector as my secondary.

HDMI is a double edged sword. While it does provide a pure digital signal, your TV might not render HDMI signals in full 32 bit color (you could get 24 instead). I learned this while messing around with a TV my friend bought, nothing looked quite right going through the HDMI cable. Eventually we switched to a VGA cable. There is some dithering this way, although it's hardly noticeable unless the screen is completely black and the increase in color depth was well worth it. Hopefully you're TV has HDMI 1.3+ so you won't have to worry about that.

couldent find any oversampling in nvidia control panle where would it be incase i do need it?

If you match the native resolution of your TV with the resolution of your computer, there should be no need to oversample.
