    Paladin and great sword

This is not bragging (ok maybe a little in the last pic ) I seriously would like to know what everyone think about paladin and great sword in a meripo. Would you invite one?
If you would, what would be your "specifications"?

    PLD/SAM+GS - Killing Ifrit

Been there done that. Long thread but interesting. The conclusion is that it is very very good, and should outparse DW J/J without a problem. There are a few parse results in the later pages (page 7-9 i think). Enjoy.

Just to add that I am surprised that it is not common to see pld with GS in merit yet, there isn't too much difference between a GS pld/sam and a GS drk/sam other than the attack JT and LR. Normally you wouldn't use SE in merit anyway, and pld has access to almost all haste/hec/ares gears, making it a very very good option for merit.

With SS's attack bonus, you will almost always be able to reach cRatio cap providing that you have a brd, and single hit WS acc bonus neglect any acc problem you might have with GS, which you shouldn't have to begin with at bird with some merits. So yea, I honestly would only invite a pld/sam with GS in meritpo if I ever invite a pld, cuz this shows that the pld is welling to go all out on DD.

    I Joined a skill up party in the Boyhada Tree the other day and they thought i was a DRK as well ._.;

Greatsword and PLD are fun combinations, i pulled a 1200 Spinning Slash (Sneak Attack) on a Steelshell, was funny

GS and Paladin is a lot of fun. I still need to get Ground Strike done for my Paladin. But it's definitely a good time imo. And you can put out some respectable numbers in the process.

While I probably wouldn't invite one if I didn't know the pld personally, but it is doable. Maybe you can set up your own meripo with ls and friends and give birds a try. With Pld/Sam, assuming you fulltime hasso, you should be able to get your hit rate high enough as not to need madrigal(But this requires a great deal of gear) so the other melees wouldn't have to eat madrigal (or can just use it anyways if pt'in with a bunch of dual wielders).

Hume Pld/sam has 62 base dex
    Using the following gear
    GS of choice/Pole Strap/empty/Tiphia Sting
Askar/Pcc/Brutal/Minuet Earring(Best choice since I'm assuming as pld you won't have hollow and in a meripo you will have minuet)
    Haub+1/Homam/Rajas/Toreador's
    Cuch/Swift/Homam/Homam
You would net 83.3% hitrate on lv 82 Gcolibri and 87.8% hitrate on lv 81 Gcolibri assuming you were able to fulltime hasso.
Replacing PCC with GSD torque would put your hit rates at 81.6% and 86.1% respectively

This is assuming you have full GSD merits. If you don't, then its not really going to work out for you.

Edit: Too used to mnk lol forgot to add in a grip

I really don't have any real DD gears, and that was /THF =x. Gears we're

    Skofnuglol/Mythril +1/-/-
    walmart/CC/brutal/ethereal
haub NQ/dusk NQ/sniper's NQ/the amnesia ring forgot name
    cerb mantle/swift/homam/homam

For WS replace walmart with O-Hat, CC with breeze gorget, swift with warwolf, homam legs with valor leggings, homam feet with heca feet.

On page 7, Beckwin's parse is pretty accurate of what it can do. While obviously not as good as some of the prime DDs, it sure is better than any other options a pld can have in a meripo.

That build is going to net you 76.3.% acc (91.3% with madrigal) on the lv 82 birds and with the delay on that GSD, an 8 hit build (9 w/o /sam)

w/o GSD merits, you're going to have
69.2%/84.2% acc w/o and with madrigal respectively.

not looking so plausible anymore imo. You probably won't get into anything but a ls or pt with friends in this condition.

I'd much rather use my Joyeuse with 297 Sword Skill with Piercing bonus vs Birds than my 254 skill (B + 2 merits) GS. If I wanna use GS, I'll come DRK lol.

I pretty much started levelling DRK cause I thought GS was so cool but PLD almost never gets to use it.

    PLD/SAM+GS - Killing Ifrit

    page 7 of ^ thread

    The link that I posted.

Beckwin later parsed as pld/nin J/J and didn't get as good of a result as his unmerited GS pld/sam. Shows how powerful it is.

His Pld/nin J/J parse result is on page 9.

I did it for a while getting from 72ish to 75 though never on birds. I would do it on mamool for the sole purpose that typically mamool last an extra few seconds and would give me time to SA-WS. I dont know about /sam never tried it though i suppose its feasable. But I think the extra 300-500? damage you are getting from using critting every ws and never whiffing would do better then having hasso and meditate - that however leaves you open to taking a few hits if you do it right at the start.

Just out of curiousity though... why do you swap turban for ohat if you are guaranteed to hit? I know walmart turban has no benefit whatsoever, but maybe grab a sipahi turban? Your TP gear looks fine to me, and other then the ohat your ws gear will do fine, there are a few better things, but if you dont have them, what you are using now will do the job.

    as for veg's acc %'s
"69.2%/84.2% acc w/o and with madrigal respectively."
he can use crab sushi and be ok on birds.

Opting to crit. every minute in lieu of a multitude of other bonuses available has never been the right choice for a merit party. Ever.

If you are going to do this, don't /thf tho. /sam for hasso, which gives 10% haste that you need for more DoT and WS, and 10 acc, which you also need for having lower skill. Spinning slash is 95% hit rate in almost all merit camps even as pld, thanks to the inner accuracy bonus that is more than 70 accuracy on all first hit of WS. And since SS gives a 50% attack bonus, sneak attack will likely only help you do about 50% more when it is up, and you will do way less WS due to no store tp and no meditate and less haste.

Don't automatically link GS to /thf, that's old school. With that much attack bonus on the WS itself, it is fine to just spam it and still get higher average than vorpal blade.

What would be the best GS for PLD to use? I thought Algol, but I don't have access to that, so I was wondering if Perdu would be a decent option or if something else would be better. Sounds fun and something new to try for my PLD, if not at the very least something new to do in campaign.

I was about t link to that KI thread, but I guess Nameless beat me to it.
Also, I believe that was pre-2H-nerf, but Im not sure.

Anyway it works, but I wouldn't invite a Pld unless I knew him.

That was after the 2H nerf I am pretty sure. Just to clarify.

I will say Algol > Subduer > Perdu (actually easier to reach 7 hit build than Subduer and acc and attack will help you alot as GS pld).

If you don't have Algol, Perdu is fine. I don't really screw around with GSword PLD (I merit on other jobs, buffer in campaign), but I would figure that since the +atk is minimal, I'd go with something that yields a higher weapon rank; unlocked Subduer/Bahadur/Balan's/Cruadin/etcshit'sallthesame works.

Subduer actually has the lowest weapon rank due to the fact that weapon rank follows non latent base damage. Therefore, Subduer is rank 8 and fstr caps at 16. Just 1 fstr difference so it doesn't really make or break you.

I actually did it in the Mire around 68/69ish using a Great Sword for fun. I cracked a 1300+ a few time on Jhuns and about 1ks on Spongilla Flys. It's fun using a Great Sword if you have the right gear to get away with it.
