A number of good ones but more really really bad ones...

If it was $20 or less i'd consider it.

Thanks for the heads up though.

They're always making a compilation of old games, taking that and adding about 5 games, then re-releasing it again.

Even though it's easier to download and play on the computer I'd rather sit in front of the tv and play them. I don't know maybe I'm a sucker for compilation stuff

Yeah that's the thing. They must know how prevalent downloading is. I'm suprised they even bothered with this.

You're right I dont. Still suprises me. Has quite a few solid games in the lineup though.

Yeah this is old, but good news. I had forgotten about the release date. Now if only some fucking developer would buy out Shining Force III so those few of us who played the first part could, oh I don't fucking know, SEE HOW THE FUCKING STORY ENDS.....But noooooooooooooooooo let's just release part one in the US and then when Saturn starts floundering refuse to release any of the other ones but it's ok because we'll just continue to release games like Shining Force Exo and expect our gullible former fans to go ahead and ignore the fact that we pulled something that would be the equivalent of Final Fantasy VII ending after disc one but it's ok we're not mad and we're not hanging onto it all you stupid pig fucking pot bellied mother fuckers rolling in your own filth I hope you die a horrible pus filled fucking death for leading me on like this for how many years without so much as even a phonecall asking how I am do you know who you're dealing with mother fuckers I'm a 75 paladin and 75 samurai and YOU WILL SHOW ME THE RESPECT I DESERVE in closing I would like to add that should you ever decide to release the final two parts of the game in the US I will buy them and hate every second of it!

Pretty much this. Plus if they are going to take the time to put a ton of solid titles into one package like that it is worth the $30 bucks IMO.

My point is that this exact same thing has already been done for the PS2 and PSP, except this one has a few more games I guess. The good ones were already included in the other one anyway.

Ah that's makes more sense then. I don't have any of them so it is like a brand new retro toy.

All kidding aside from my rant. Why is it that Shining Force III was never finished, yet Sega will devote the time and energy to releasing their greatest hits? I understand it will sell very well(I'll be buying it as well) but there are still a lot of people who would like to see the official end of Shining Force III.

It's not like the company is out of business, so the rights are lost to whoever absorbed them. Camelot Software Planning is still an active third party developer. The only issue is licensing through Sega since it was an exclusive to their company. Ho hum, it will probably never happen. But it still would be nice to see that series sent off the way it should be.

Or they could start making the Shining series like it was in the past, and not this useless fucking garbage they keep releasing trying to capitalize on the name. Shining Force is a turn based tactics rpg. That is what is should remain as.

It wouldn't even take much work, since I am pretty sure the game was already finished in Japan, and they would probably make a bunch of money from US sales. I think it is pretty stupid that they won't finish that, and continue making shitty Sonic games instead.

The first Shining game was not a tactics title, it was a first person dungeon crawler like "Shining the Holy Ark," or the early "Phantasy Star." There were also other non-SRPG entries in the series, aside from the aforementioned Holy Ark, like "Shining Wisdom."

It has never been a series that was meant for only one genre. I do wish that the modern entries were of superior quality, but I don't expect them to be strictly one type of RPG.

I was excluding Shining in the Darkness because it was total ass. But seriously when you hear the title Shining Force the vast majority of people think the tactical quasi-rpg. Most of the other games they have made and entered into the Shining universe have been subpar at best even considering they are intended as stand alone titles.

Shining Wisdom, Shining the Holy Ark, Shining Tears, Shining Force Neo, and Shining Force EXA were nothing more than attempts to cash in on the nostalgic name of the series. While I understand that all the Shining games were never intended to be strictly tactical rpg's, the games that they have released since then have never even come close to approaching Shining Force 1, 2, and 3.

In respect to story, gameplay, and overall entertainment those three blew the doors off all the other entires. Sadly, for whatever reason, they chose not to follow that same formula in their future endeavors.

I know that most people strictly think of Shining Force and not Shining in general, but that's why I usually jump out to correct them. Personally, I absolutely loved Holy Ark and Wisdom, and I also enjoyed "Shining in the Darkness" quite a lot.

In fact, I responded to you about it too in the last thread:

It's relatively easy despite its age, despite many titles which have come out since then with outrageous random battle amounts. Its first-person perspective was well-done on the Genesis, and though it certainly wasn't the first of its kind, I enjoyed the memories of the more archaic "Phantasy Star."

In fact, if anyone is to insult Darkness, then you may as well say the first PS was trash, too. The dialogue in it is extremely limited, since there was only so much space the translators had to use, and many of your required goals are extremely vague. Without the wonders of the internet we now have, it was much harder years ago to conquer that game.

Darkness isn't like that at all. Far less frustration and more logical progression. It's dated, but so is PSII, which is excellent yet similarly difficult.
Looking back at it however, my original statement was a little jumbled. I mainly meant to say that "Shining in the Darkness" has aged relatively well in terms of difficulty -- you can still play it today without needing a FAQ, for example -- and is arguably more fun than the original "Phantasy Star," though I love them both.

All of the entries in the Shining series used to be quality, whether they were in the Force line or not. Nowadays, every entry is mediocre, and the Force part of the title is being applied inaccurately -- surely to turn the heads of once fans.
