And I don't think that this lawsuit really influenced experience point changes considering that Blizzard is always trying to make the game more accessible and fun to everyone. Even the so called "welfare epics" were added to give casual players access to acceptable gear to allow them to progress with up-to-date raiders. The gear would be a tad "out-dated" (Though in most cases, it's not) to encourage players to try the newer content though. In terms of FFXI, it would be like Ground HNM and sky gear readily available to all through something like Campaign with the release of sea (assuming that sea had corresponding gear for those slots and it was on average, better). Each new progression would release something comparable to the previous levels. Sea-like gear would be released with Salvage. Salvage like gear with Einherjar. I know this isn't the best example since some sky gear is still better than just released gear, but WoW evolves each new instance releasing gear that improves upon previously released gear. (Basically, if you quit for 3 years in WoW like I did for FFXI you wouldn't come back to be just as powerful.)
