PCI express 3.0 x16 compatibility question

Greetings,

I am in desperate need (well, not desperate, but I really want to) of upgrading my 5 years old video card. My mobo will take pci express 2.0 x16 (which my current card is) and the card I am looking at is pci express 3.0 x16.

I've done some quick searching on the net and most sites seems to say that I shouldn't have any real problems using this new card, only that my mobo won't really be able to take 100% advantage of the power of the newer card.

Has anyone here done something similar with an upgrade, and if so did you have issues with the newer card working with your older mobo?

unless you are buying the most powerful titan, no standard graphics cards you can get will fill the lanes of pciX 2.0, the biggest different between 2 and 3 is the increased speed (if your card can go that fast) and the increased power you can get from the mobo (on some cards it means you dont have to plug in the extra power relays, not that many though)

You will be absolutely fine with a 2.0 board and a 3.0 card
