    Peter Pan Live (NBC)

Anyone else watching this right now? Thoughts?

It's been... live theatre on TV I guess. Walken has been interesting. It seems like at times he's forgotten his lines. But his quirky acting style is definitely sticking out lol.

Better then Sound of Music so far at least

I agree. Almost a little over the top in how theatrical it's being, but considering the play they're doing and that you can see things like the wires that are letting them "fly", they gotta be a little more flashy to make up for it I suppose

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I haven't gotten to see it yet, but I want to. A friend of mine trained the dog for the show.

It's considerably better then Sound of Music. But I think that's mainly because of no Carrie Underwood lol. All the people involved are actually actors

I happened to catch glimpses of some of this on the TV at the gym earlier, and I totally thought Peter Pan was a chick and that it was some random TV show (till it cut to a scene with the ol Cap'n).

I might not have got a good look, but why on earth is he wearing lip gloss and blush? I was so thrown off/confused by it.

EDIT: Wait, what, it actually was a chick? IM SO CONFUSED, WHY IS THIS? Suppose I don't feel as bad for thinking she looked cute (the actress is gorgeous+my age, as it turns out), but what the heck is going on?

Peter Pan is almost always played by women, actually.

Mary Martin, Sandy Duncan, Cathy Rigby, etc...

But wow... this performance was an abomination. Christopher Walken was clearly drunk or something.

I'm kind of surprised at how unpolished the technical cues were. More then a few moments where you could see lots of stuff that should ALWAYS remain out of frame, like other cameras, lights hanging from up top, even saw 1 camera angle that clearly had some crew member partially in the way for a second or two lol

So Alison Williams who played Peter Pan is the daughter of NBC News anchor Brian Williams. Interesting.

Sounds like someone needs some theatre education in their life.

From what I remember, Peter is supposed to be around 12 to 14 years old and back then there were strict labor laws that prohibited actors under the age of 14 from being on stage past 9pm. Because of this, it was more believable to have a young female (older than 14) with a small frame and higher pitched voice to play a pre-pubescent male. Even in the first production of Peter Pan, Michael I believe was portrayed by a young woman along with some of the lost boys. Over time, it just became tradition to have a female play the role of Peter Pan on stage.

Very akin to how Hamlet (a young 20-something college kid really) is always played by men in their late 40's and above ._.

Just one of those traditions/niches that have developed over time in the theatre world
