Meh, Tom Berenger was doing shit like that in Vietnam, as was that russian dude in Stalingrad 65 years ago. Screw technology, shoot straighter.
Actually, shoot less straight. Most of the time at those ranges the adjustments due to wind / elevation put the muzzle quite a bit off. Aiming straight as hell ain't gonna fix that, unless, of course, your bullet ACTUALLY goes straight (like this is supposed to do)
1.5 miles is pretty nuts, as is.
Meh, seems like they're trying to dumb down sniping since they can't train enough, from reading the article.
That's akin to saying they invented tanks to 'dumb down' calvalry
Technological advancement is advancement, etc
So? Canadians have been doing this for years.
Killing shot made at distance of 2,430 metres
This U.S. Marine once killed a guy from 2500+ yards with a single shot from a .50 caliber machine gun using a 4x scope. Read his biography, this guy was good.
Barrett .50's have been around for over 20 years and a .50 cal snipper rifle can reach out and touch some one from 1500m away and has the record 2500m kill which is a mile and a half.

Gonna name my kid Simo.
Obama won't let me have this to protect my family with ; ;
wasnt Mr. Roger's a sniper in nam?
edit: nvm I guess he wasnt, I wonder who I am thinking of though
Anyone else think it's a bit disturbing that we have a record for how much of a distance away we've killed someone?
not really, people kill people everyday
Too late.
.22 rifles can kill from 1760 yards, better be a pretty fucking great shot though.
Nothing new, sniper rifles always had the range to shoot above a mile away. Just not normal for people to have a good accuracy to shoot a target in that distance. Even some handgun bullets can go pretty distant.
