    co-amoxiclav side effects

I got put on a course of these tablets (that contain penicillin) yesterday and i've got a rash all over my back today, unfortunatly the doctors surgery is now closed for the day so i come to you lot for advise. Could this be an ellergic reactions to penicillin?(Even thoughi've used before and never had anyproblems),or is it just a common side effect?

I can't seem to find any other answers on Google ;(

    Thanks for any help!

You'e taken penicillin before and had nothing happen? Maybe check WebMD and see if the ingredients are the same. Actually checked WebMD and it linked me to the AARP site. I couldn't find the name of the drug you're taking so I'm going to assume it's a generic substitute. But here's what it says about Penicillin.

What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?
Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:
•allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
    •breathing problems
    •dark urine
    •fever with headache, flushing
    •muscle cramps
    •pain or difficulty passing urine
    •red spots on the skin
•redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth
    •seizures
    •unusual bleeding or bruising
    •unusually weak or tired

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
    •diarrhea
    •dizziness
    •headache
    •pain where injected
    •stomach upset

But if it's only a rash I wouldn't be terribly concerned. If something else develops like swelling I would probably get a little worried. Don't buy the stuff on WebMD. It's a hypochondriac's heaven since their response is usually contact a doctor immiediately! Is it itchy or just a plain old rash? I would probably at least call someone if it's actually causing discomfort.

If worse comes to worse call the pharmacy where you had the prescription filled. They should be able to tell you the side effects and if anything you're experiencing warrants a trip to the doctor or hospital.

Press a clear glass against the rash, if it doesn't go away then you have meningitis and are going to die in the next 45 seconds.

sounds more like an inoperable brain tumor to me. those usually give you a bad rash.

god i love the idiots on bg, it is an allergic reaction, you can call your doctor and talk to the oncall doctor and tell them you are having the allergic reaction and they will contact your surgical doctor that wrote the original prescription so they can call ina different antibiotic for you

well it could be a lupus-infested brain tumour. I'm not ruling anything out.

but yeah, in all seriousness, just call your doctor tomorrow. unless the symptoms start to get serious enough for you to decide on an e.r. visit. but it doesn't sound like they are.

to be better safe than sorry, stop taking the meds immediately, and when you are able, contact your doctor. Allergies like this aren't to be messed with. If you develop an allergy to penicillin or any other medication, the more you take it the greater the immune response that can be generated. Up to and including things like anaphylactic shock which is not good.

If you knew you were allergic to poison ivy, you wouldn't continue to rub it on yourself until something worse than a rash appeared, would you?

There are other antibiotics that your doctor can give you for whatever you have that are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Stop the meds, call the doc, get it switched.

come to think of it, that's a good plan. it doesn't sound like the side-effects are serious, but once they get serious, you have a pretty short time to get to the hospital or you're dead.

Just because you never had a reaction to the drug before doesn't mean that you won't have one now. Whether it is the penicillin or not is a different story. Some people just have adverse side effects to combo drugs. You may be fine taking amoxicillin alone, but when paired with another drug it could spark an allergic reaction.

amoxclav is not two drugs, its a generic for augmentin and its an antibiotic, same class as penicillin which may be why hes having an allergic reaction if hes allergic to penicillin...

stop taking the meds, call the doctor on call so they can contact your dr and get new antibiotics.

you can develop an allergy to something over night, if you are having a severe rash, call the pharmacy and/or the doctor. probably wouldn't hurt to take some benadryl. other than that, not much you can do besides stopping the medicine.
