Have a good SC and a horde of BLMs = win
1 tank enough ?
Like pt should look like that I guess :
Blm x5
Brd/cor
Blm x5
brd/cor
Pld
Brd/cor
Whm
Rdm
DD x2
Correct ?
Blm is nice, but you dont need an army either (4-5 is fine). Melees do decent dmg, and knowing how to control turtle mode will allow you to kill it easily.
The most important part of the fight is knowing when to nuke. Basically, always keep your mp high when it's outside its shell. Dealing certain amount of damage will make it change between both mode, and you don't want to leave it in its shell. The moment it goes inside, make a skillchain or 2 and nuke it until it goes out.
so basicaly it's another aspid ?
Nuke slowly and conserve mp when it's out of the shell, SC + MB once it's in ?
More or less although it's regen is more potent than Aspi's so it's important that you execute skillchains + magic bursts properly and quickly when the time is right. You shouldn't really nuke while it's out of the shell at all, your melee should be able to put it back in. If you screw up a few times it can easily regen most if not all of the damage you've done.
Also remember that rdms need to silence it when it goes into its shell, cause silencega and waterga can ruin your shit.
If it's silenced while out of shell, it will wear off the instant it enters its shell, so you have to re-silence it every time it goes in.
We usually use 6-8 blm, and do a timed blizzard 4 to put it in its shell, then the melee immediately make a darkness SC, and blms MB freeze 2. This always takes it out, as long as the BLMs hit the MB correctly.
Yep. This is the strat Drex and I use in our linkshell. 8 seems to be the perfect number when executing it this way, as 7 seemed to throw off damage to get him into/out of his shell. We usually cleared it in about 12~16 minutes this way. But yeah, silencing him is important.Originally Posted by Drex
did this with 7-8 blm 3 sams 2-3 rdm a brd for ballads, and a couple plds. We just had BLMs rest their MP to full when he was out of shell, PLD would kite it during that time. Bind lands easily from what I could tell, which made this even easier. When BLMs were ready, SAMs would pop a distortion SC and blm would bliz4/freeze2 MB. This would put him in his shell and out immediately ----> repeat until its dead. Its important to call out when it comes out of his shell again. At this point, you need to stop all nuking completly so that it wont go inside shell again, because if it does, you might be too low on MP to keep dealing enough damage to bring him out again, which can be really bothersome <.<
Overall Id say this is the easiest of the 3 ks99 if you use this method.
Necrobump of sorts. It's still on the first page, is it really a necro?
Anyway, otherwiki has listed that Requiem has a dramatic effect on the Turtle's regen; Anybody have any experience with this? Other than (finally) a use for Requiem, I'd be interested to see if anybody has some first-hand experience with this effect in this fight..
(and I know, I know... The hills are alive... with the sound of music...)
way we do it is pretty simple
2 pld, 6 blm, 2 sam, 2 brd, and some healing. alliance can be fiddled with a bit, just get something that looks like that.
pld kite around the circle, sam follow, thwacking the turtle as he goes. mages stand by the entrance into the circle (not the seal, but just where the actual CIRCLE is, like where you'd nuke from for ODS.) 3 blm use bliz4 to put it into its shell on a clock. sams skillchain, make induration to burst ice, bring it out w/ bga3, f2, and b4 MBs. pops right back out. rest MP, kite, repeat. bring echos. do not silence it for any reason or he will be very resistant to coming back out of his shell and can regen most of his HP back before it wears.
My ls does this fight with 1 rdm, 1-2 pld, 1 whm, 2 sam, 2 brd, 6-8 blm.
Basically pld kites it with gravity, when he is outside his shell there should be no dots, no meele (sam meditate tp or meele if absolutely needed to get tp). When sams have tp and blms have mp, the blms call out a timed blizzard 4 to force it into it's shell.
After the timed nuke, blms start casting freeze 2 and the sams do Tachi: Enpi to Tachi: Enpi creating distortion. Also important, make sure your rdm casts silence right as he goes in, because he can silencega the blms, fucking up the whole MB.
Once the burst goes off he comes out of his shell, usually. Its good to have a person with a macro letting people know when he comes out so they can stop nuking. Any nukes after he comes out could mean trouble forcing him back in, so you got to make sure your blms stop when told too. If he goes back in have blms go all out and slam him with nukes and try to your sams to SC again if they can.
Keep doing this and you should kill him after 5 rounds or less. Usually beat it within 10-20 minutes with minor problems or none at all.
Ditto on the timed-nuke-into-shell part. Incidentally, he can be straight tanked just fine. He resists pretty much every debuff, but his accuracy is pretty mediocre and he hits like a merit mob.
sorry for the bump, we did a few of these yesterday for eggs and on the 1st we ES silenced him inside shell and it took 3 sometimes 4 volleys of SC+MB to get him out of his shell which led to him regening back to 90% or higher for roughly 15 mins. once we stopped silencing him 1 SC+MB got him back out and it was a breeze, so yea, i dont know if this was a ninja fix or a bug but dont silence him inside shell.
It actually seems to take a significant amount of melee damage. You can start an SC before it goes in shell and take it inside with the damage from the SC. Our SAM broke 1k Gekko easily. 5 BLMs landing the MB was enough to take it out of shell every time. Lowest we did this with was 11; 5 BLMs 1 COR 1 PLD (Aegis) 1 WHM 1 BRD 1 THF 1 SAM (Yeah, we had no RDM) and we still won in ~11 minutes.
Silencing him like triples or quadrouples his regen. First time I ever tried this silencing it killed us, his watergas are easy as shit to eat if you have Water Carol and Barwater from a good WHM on. We single PLD tank and never had a problem with eating any of his spells, 2 PLD's prolly better but 1 good one can definately manage.
Is waterga really the issue though? From reading this it looks like it's the silence-ga that they're trying to prevent.
I haven't tried this fight yet. Better to straight tank or kite? My ls doesn't have fancy relics or anything but we have some decently geared tanks.
Waterga is an issue. When it went off it hit me for over 1K. Throw in a TP move on top of that and it's a quick wipe. IMO, the best way to do it is NIN/DRK straight-tanking. You get the most hate and you don't have an issue with the tanks inadvertently forcing it into the shell as you can with a PLD.
