Glenn Beck Comedy Tour Announced

NEW YORK — Glenn Beck, Fox News Channel's latest sensation, is taking a comedy show on the road for six live performances over six days during the first week of June.

Beck calls his act a "poor man's Seinfeld" and intends to mix topical humor with his modern-day reimagining of Thomas Paine's 1776 pamphlet "Common Sense."

The radio and TV talk show host will start June 1 in Denver, then perform in theaters in Phoenix, San Diego, Kansas City, Houston and Richmond, Va., over the next five days, he said. The Kansas City show on June 4 will air as a live simulcast in select theaters across the country and as a recorded broadcast in theaters a week later, a spokesman for Beck said.

Beck has done such live performances in the past, most recently during the downtime between his departure from CNN's HLN network and joining Fox's schedule in January.

His profile has increased exponentially since then, with his 5 p.m. show nearly doubling Fox's ratings in the time slot. He's become a favorite target for Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert to lampoon, and been criticized by liberals for over-the-top criticisms of President Barack Obama.

"I couldn't have guessed this success at Fox," Beck said. "We would never have put money down on the table that we would have had this kind of success."

Since he began doing live performances in 2004, Beck has appeared before more than 100,000 fans.

The live shows give him the chance to see firsthand what sort of themes are resonating among his regular followers, Beck said. For the first time during his most recent tour, there seemed to be no regional differences in the concerns that his fans expressed, he said.

"I learn something from the audience," he said. "I know my thoughts but I can see their reaction to things."

For six weeks in Denver, Glenn Beck will mix observational humor with political opinion, all with this trademark soothsaying of Armageddon and emotional instability.

Beck, who has no history with comedy whatsoever, describes his coming performances as a mix of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense with “a poor man’s Seinfeld.”

A publicity clip of Beck trying out his material in a New York nightclub includes the following excerpt.

“Did you ever notice how the Obama administration is steering us directly towards the coming apocalypse? [Some laughter] I said, did you ever notice?! I’m asking you a question, people! The end of times are neigh and we’re being walked right to it by a secret Muslim who has never said he’s NOT the Antichrist, and you don’t even care!! [Audible sobbing] But I care. I care for my country… So. Much. (Loud sigh) I just love my country too much.”

During the four-minute clip, Beck cries 3 times and throws a chair at someone towards the end. He will be opening at Chuckleheads in Denver on June 1st.

I have never watched Glenn Beck on television, but I saw a preview for his comedy tour at the movie theater before Star Trek this weekend (don't get me started, I miss my movie trivia, dammit), and everything about it just seemed offensive and not funny. Why would anyone pay to listen to that crap...?

The Jim Jeffries HBO special was on this weekend (first time I've seen it, I assume it was new) and it was actually very funny. Extraordinarily dirty, however, and let's just say he's not a big fan of the christians. I present that as the antidote for this Glenn Beck horseshit, with the added bonus of being hysterical. No one truly 'wins' any of the arguments they engage in on this forum. I don't suppose to know everything, like many of the people here do. I'm not knocking those who argue, for some it is fun, but for me, it's tiring--especially when you can't say for sure why it was worth arguing in the first place.
