    Magic Boost Testing

Not my work, copied from the fine folks at Aion Blah's mage forums.

This is in Aion China, Values may differ in other versions

I did some test on my 38 sorcerer and I come with solid results about Magic Boosting and how it affects damage. I'll let you interpret the data as you wish.

    Tooltip Damages of Tested Skills

    Snare Chain: 444
    Flame Fusion: 418
    Flame Bolt: 584

Base Damage w/ 19 Magic Boost (Stupid passives)

    Snare Chain: 428
    Flame Fusion: 403
    Flame Bolt: 566

Damage used for Testing w/ 59 Magic Boost

    Snare Chain: 441
    Flame Fusion: 417
    Flame Bolt: 584

    Damage w/ 1060 Magic Boost

    Snare Chain: 794
    Flame Fusion: 748
    Flame Bolt: 1049

% Increase of 1001 Magic Boost

    Snare Chain: 80.0453515%
    Flame Fusion: 79.3764988%
    Flame Bolt: 79.6232877%

    Damage with 537 Magic Boost

    Snare Chain: 609
    Flame Fusion: 575
    Flame Bolt: 806

% Increase of 478 Magic Boost

    Snare Chain: 38.0952381%
    Flame Fusion: 37.8896882%
    Flame Bolt: 38.0136986%

    Conclusion:

10 Magic Boost increases damage by roughly .8%
100 Magic Boost increase damage by roughly 8%
500 Magic Boost increases damage by roughly 40%

Hellfire does not work this way though. I did roughly 4027 damage w/ 1169 magic boost. According to the above percentages, I should have done around 2947. Guess more testing is required.

A level 50 Sorc w/ Best magic boost gear and all +25 magic boost manastones fully buffed w/ Flame Robe, Food Buffs and a Chanter has around 207% extra damage including the +% pvp bonus.

Notes: this is for v1.0 in C-Aion, not sure if these numbers will change.

For SM's Magic Boost works the same way, however the damage is spread over the entire duration making it less noticeable than on facerolling sorc. Also unsure if there are any caps on this, or what the cap might be.

I'm trying to figure out a decent way of testing Magic Resist, but once 1.2 hits everything's going to be more annoying due to a 40% pvp damage reduction -.-; Hopefully i can figure something out before then lol.

Physical Critical Hit manastones work very similar, roughly 10=1%, it could be the same as MB and a hair under 1%. They seem to cap around 400-450.

Yeah, but Magic boosting stones don't affect healing and you don't start to see significant boosts from MB+ until 30+ for some reason

I would really love to see some solid numbers on Magic Boost's effects on SM's dots. Although, with current lack of pet scaling, MB at high enough level for a SM would leave that SM completely vulnerable in a PvP situation let alone in a PvE situation. If and when pet scaling come to be, the question I guess will be different.

I guess I got to ask is what is a Sorc giving up to get 500-1000 MB?

Nothing. At level 50 a sorc can hit 1000 MB with just a (crafted) gold weapon and manastones. Not counting PvP weapons/armor/accessories which have MB on them as well and 6 manastone slots each. SM can hit similar MB numbers (minus passives) however you have to give up almost all of your survivability for a barely noticeable increase in damage per tick.

Magic boost works the same for SM as it does for sorc, just spread out. If you were doing 500 damage over 5 ticks (100/tick) without counting MB, you'd be seeing 600 damage over 5 ticks (120/tick) after MB.

Magic Acc. I used an orb during the last CBT and I cant tell you how many times I was resisted, but if I switched to book with about 30-40 more magic acc the resists went down. I especially noticed resists on the "spirit" mobs.

That and HP. Sorcs are like glass, 2 hits and you die (trust me, I died A LOT from just 2-3 hits). Without HP and Stoneskin in PvP you'd be dead so quickly your magic damage wouldnt matter.

Thanks, I knew the survivability part of the equation, I was just not sure if you could end up with WoW Warlock-esque OP dots ticking with incredibly high MB at this point in the game.
