I can't log on o_O

Right, so I recently transferred my entire HDD to a new one via an HDD backup program by Seagate. I know some FFXI files got corrupted when I did this. I ended up backing up all my files in a separate folder, then reinstalling, and copy+pasting those said files back into it to get it to work, and for minimal update time. Next time I went into La Thein, the game crashed and did so every time I tried logging back in. I've since then replaced the la thein dat file, which fixed the problem.

Tonight, I did the Royale Ramble KSNM30 with a friend and a pickup group. We failed miserably because some idiot kept casting on the king. Once I died, I DCed. I logged back in, got to the character selection screen, and went to the "**Downloading Data...* screen.

*2 min later*

Still on the same screen. I must have DCed while it was loading (the connection has been lost thing eventually pops up). I log in again. Same thing happens. And again, and again, and again. I rebooted, flushes my DNS, rebooted my modem, and everything else I can think of. My internet is otherwise working perfectly fine. I don't really understand it.

Do you think this all might be related and there's some sort of file corruption going on that could be causing this? It seems like it's the connection, not the files, but I'm online posting this, aren't I? If anyone could provide some help, it would be appreciated.

If it matters, I have HughesNet satellite ISP (I know, hardcore fail, but it's what my dad pays for).

One of my linkshell members has been recently having this problem, I have no clue if it could be related to http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/76608...ord-fraud.html but I'm a little worried about it.

He said he was playing at night and then he just d/c'd out and couldnt log on saying he had the wrong password (yes he owns security token) and he called SE the next day to reset his password, and then the reset password wasn't working either.

I don't know what it could be though, just letting you know that you aren't alone

It's not giving me a message about my password or anything. I actually can log into POL, and even get to the character selection screen, choose my character, and begin to log on. It just gets stuck at the black screen with the "**Downloading Data...** thing in the corner, and I DC from there.

Oh well then you might need to run a file check from the POL Viewer, it sounds like the error where your computer is incapable of loading data from the area (corrupted maybe) and refuses to load at all.

i had the same thing happen to me in sea, run a file check, if that doesnt fix it reinstall it and it should be fine.

Try resetting your modem/router and rebooting your PS2 after. I've had similar "black screen" hangs from time to time if I get r0'd and that usually fixes it. Have you tried logging in a mule to see if they get on fine? If so, would say your situation is similar for whatever reason. I almost think SE has some kind of temp-ban system in place if wonky data communication is detected that could just be a result of a connection flop in some cases.

I had this happen once for Ein. Was sitting in ein, gathering together etc etc. It randomly kicks me off. I got what you had, just downloading data then getting kicked off again. I tried everything - restarting, restarting router, etc etc.

In the end I had to play from my friends house, do ein there, then gtfo the zone. I've had no problems going to Ein since then, it was just completely random.

Until recently I had this happen in the windy waters/walls area all the time on Ps2, anytime I wanted to even enter those areas I had to do it from another platform, was really annoying, I would get the same crash/black screen ect. Not sure exactly what truly causes it but one day I decided to try my luck again and suddenly no more black screens, just kinda odd how things work sometimes.

I've had this happen to me once before, thought it was my internet connection I just kept retrying and eventually got through.. Also about your KSNM30, my group always casts on the king and we still win w/o him zerging. I believe there is something else that triggers it aside from magic because we were casting a ton of things on him like flash, bio, poison etc.

did a little poking around, no luck.

i found other users that have somewhat of the same problem, but that is only because of vista 64 on laptop

was told to poke around for a patch in exe form or something of that nature.

I'm having problems too.

I log in okay then go to launch FFXI from PoL, then after i confirm that I agree not to waste my life on this game and I will put family, friends and school first I just get redirected back to the PoL screen...

Anybody else having this issue?
