    360 response times

I posted this in tech but that place is a blackhole. I actually want a answer sometime today.

So i just went and bought a new Samsung LCD. It has a response time of 4ms and a game mode so im thinking great, this should be plenty fast for me. I bring it home hook up my 360 and now am experiencing noticeable lag in games. I'll list everything i have going so maybe one of you can spot something.

    Hooked up with HDMI cable
Have fiberoptic cable for sound (thru that extra converter Msoft gives u)
sound goes directly to my sound system.
have 2nd xbox connected with component cables
I have it networked to my PC and stream w/ tversity every now and then. Has not been streaming while playing tho.
I have all the enhancments off
hmm idk i think thats about it.

If you just went; take it back.

Sorry, we're not all tech nerds here!

However.. try troubleshooting everything first. Test your controller, test your xbox, make sure it's just the TV--I hate when I go through all the trouble to fix something when it wasn't the problem in the first place.

Its pretty much every game. It's too bad that not all of them have calibration like rock band. Its really bad on Gears of war 2 tho. I'm pretty much stuck with it however cause instead of looking at neweggs return policy i just said "hmm that looks nice" ::click::

It looks great other wise so i guess i'll live with it until i find someone to buy it lol

It's probably HD lag. Run 360 in 780p if you're using 1080i. Or run the game in its native resolution.

i just bought a samsung over the weekend and have pretty much the same setup except i am running my xbox through VGA instead of HDMI. at the screen's native resolution, everything is tack sharp. i bought the tv because all the sales people are raging about 120hz for gaming, but once i load up my xbox it tells me it's only running at 60hz.

i don't know what your situation is like, but if you somehow turned on 120hz, it may be adding extra frames to your game and causing this 'ghosting/lag' effect. i read about some people having that issue somewhere.

    ^ 2Pac is right,

You're experiencing HD lag. That 4ms response time has nothing at all to do whether your lag will be affected or not. Whenever you are playing a game in a resolution that isn't native to the screen's it has to do extra processing which causes lag. Gamemode reduces some of that extra processing, but you'll get a less desired sometimes "washed out" picture (depending on models). Supposedly (I don't know if this is fact) but using component or VGA will reduce lag slightly.

An even better option would be to pick up a "Commercial Grade HDTV" (the common stuff on store's shelves is "Consumer Grade") if you're that concerned about lag.

disable all picture enhancing features. i have a phillips which uses quite a lot of those like perfect pixel, color enhancing etc. turn all that stuff off and see if it helps. it does on my phillips and you don't need any picture enhancing features for games.

the 360 supports that TV's resolution. do you have NXE?

i find it funny that a lot of the troubleshooting just takes shutting off all the new and exciting features that these manufacturers are trying to upsell to us. f'ing bastards

I have owned 2 LCD's and had similar issues to what you are having, Samsung was the worst for me, they have so many picture enhancing features. A Panasonic or Pioneer plasma is where it's at. Any newer plasma's have anti-image retention and have a life span just as long as an LCD. I have 4 friends converted to plasma just from them coming to my house and playing games on mine.

    I think this is same Panasonic I have Panasonic TH42PZ85U Plasma HDTV - 42", 16:9, 30000:1, 1920 x 1080, 1080p, 480Hz, ATSC, NTSC, HDMI In at TigerDirect.com

I have never had any issues with burn-in or lag, I didn't play any games on it for the first 1000 hours though because it is important you break a plasma in properly.

Ive turned off everything i possibly could but it still didnt help. I play shooters alot so the amount the screen lags is just a game breaker. I was looking at a plasma too but decided against it because the picture wasnt as bright. fml lol

Though Omniyoji already said it, here's a review site I found a few weeks ago when looking for a new TV, which I still didn't buy, because of input lag issues like these.

Samsung LE40B650 Picture Quality (HD+SD) & Sound Quality (it's your TV, but the European version). Scroll down and you'll read this:
    HD Console Gaming (Sony PS3)

The Samsung LE40B650's impressive video processing comes at a price unfortunately, and it's not good news for avid gamers. We measured the input lag on the LE40B650 to be around 84ms to 100ms slower than our resident Samsung F96 LED-backlit LCD TV (which had [Game Mode] enabled), which is almost as bad as the Philips 37PFL9632D (the worst in our database of reviewed HDTVs). Rock Band was basically unplayable unless we compensated for the input lag via the in-game calibration menu.

Fortunately, we could reduce the input lag on the Samsung LE40B650 to between 17ms and 34ms either by engaging [Game Mode] or using VGA connection (not a feasible option for the PS3, we know). While this amount of input lag is still higher than recent offerings from Sony and Sharp, whether or not you will be affected depends on your individual sensitivity, and the reflexes demanded by the particular game.
Don't ask me why they use the Samsung F96 reference for most reviews since that has 30ms input lag compared to an old school monitor. The last generation of Sony's (Z4500, W4500 and V4000) had 0 ms to very little input lag in Game Mode and some in w/e mode, the newer generation like the W5500 does have higher input lag again, maybe it's due to Sony's new Bravia 3 Engine (Z4500 etc have Bravia 2) and they still need to work out some kinks to lower input lag?
