The alternative, military Juntas, have a great track record of being 'democratic' in Central America.

Egon, did you read the article or just copypasta the headline in an attempt to stick something in the craw of the progressives/rational ppl on the board? The further you go into it, the more Obama's decision is presented as being right from a pragmatic point of view.

There is a difference between the constitution and the right choice. We are not bound to these papers known as "Constitutions".

Isn't overthrowing the democratically elected President of a country a violation of a country's constitution? Yeah Zelaya's actions in regards to the constitution may not be in the true spirit of democracy but as the article you posted points out

Central America analysts say Obama had no choice but to condemn Zelaya's ouster.

"If you watch what happens, regardless of your take of what is happening, you're going to come to the conclusion that it was wrong," Michael Lisman of the Inter-American Dialogue, said of the coup. "But, it's a complicated situation. Something had to be done. What (else could be) done remains to be seen."

Peter DeShazo, director of the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said the military takeover of a democratically elected administration sets a "very dangerous precedent," one that awakens dormant memories of past military power.

Coups were common in Central America until the 1980s, but Sunday's ouster was the first military power grab in Latin America since a brief, failed 2002 coup against Chavez. That failed effort won early moral support by the Bush administration.

Sunday's coup was the first military ouster of a Central American president since 1993, when Guatemalan military officials refused to accept President Jorge Serrano's attempt to seize absolute power and removed him. They turned over power to a civilian within days.

Honduras had not seen a coup since 1978, when one military government overthrew another.

DeShazo said Zelaya's actions may have been unconstitutional, "but there are constitutional means for resolving these kinds of issues. That's what should be the process."

He added that "the United States really would be totally out of sync with its neighbors if it didn't come out and express concern about what happened in Honduras."

Actually we kinda are... There are set ways of changing it if need be, which no one in that country did.

It seems he's more against military coups than anything.

Zelaya is clearly a sketchy motherfucker, but it's not like he had succeeded in his power grab attempt.

No foundation? Executive Orders and Signing Statements are pretty substantial tools. Not to mention things can get stuck in Supreme Court Limbo. You are really going to sit here and tell me our 2009 Government does EVERYTHING that a 220 year old constitution dictates? Not too mention the things that go on behind closed doors. C'mon now...Please don't be so ignorant.

It looks like there is no way of changing this particular part of the constitution, and in fact the constitution says that proposing a change is grounds for removal from office. Stupid constitution and a stupid politician who wasn't going to win reelection even if the courts had recognized that fact and allowed a referendum.

I wonder what the "removal from office" procedure is?

I'm confused as to whom Egon thinks is the 'little man' in this case? The Honduran population being swiftly crushed underfoot by an allegely power-grabby president? Or the Honduran population about to be swiftly crushed underfoot by Yet Another South American Military Junta?

Had Obama supported an armed military insurrection instead FOX would have run a 'oh gosh that Obama sure messed this foreign affair up' story. And Egon would have posted it.
