Regarding GM Call Congestion -[Sept 11]

Highlighted and underlined the important goodies about the implementation of a filter.

Regarding GM Call Congestion http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/imgs/spacer.gif http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/imgs/info/infhr.gif
We have confirmed that RMT and suspicious site advertisements are being sent in large quantities as tells in game.

Regarding these issues, we ask that when you place a GM call to report them, that you please include the name of the character that sent you the tell in the call summary. Additionally, while we are investigating all calls that come in, we estimate that the number of calls will continue to increase by a considerable amount, so we ask for your understanding if a GM is unable to personally respond to these issues specifically.

To counter the increase of these issues, we are planning to introduce a filter to block suspicious tells along with the next version update. We ask for your patience and understanding in this matter.

I do wonder whether this filter will actually entirely block those 'suspicious' tells or merely decrease the number of calls that are increasing by a considerable amount? Basically, I'm thinking the average amount of RMT tells is going to stay and nothing will change.

When is SE going to actually solve the problem instead of just circumventing it?

It's like leaving a bank vault open 24 hours a day and putting dogs, trip wires, and laser beams up to protect it, and still having shit get stolen from it everyday. Just close the god damned door already.

Except the rest of us still need to get in.

And this is solving the problem. The problem, specifically, being mass RMT tells.

It's masking tape on a leaky water main.

Screw the tell filter. Get rid of the RMT and they can't send you tells anymore.

You'll never get rid of RMT completely. Neeeevvvvvveeeeerrrrrrr! Unless they drastically changed the game so gil was less important. A tell filter is great, it could turn out even better than chatmon who knows. It'd probably be better just make it so trial accounts are unable to initiate tells to people that haven't either telled them first or on friend list but this is a start. Deterrence is how you slow RMT down.

why can they just disable /tell's on free trial accounts. thats how they are spamming the /tell's, as most of us know, is through the free trial accounts.

or they could set it as that you can only send a /tell on the free trial accounts only if you are on that person's contact list.

problem solved, oh wait that has too much common sense for SE to comprehend

Back when i was sending this daily (may/june) I detailed several methods.

    1) Trial accounts have a status that indicates they are a trial account
    2) Non-trial accounts have an option to "ignore trial account". This is exempt if a non-trial char befriends a trial char (note trial cannot befriend a non-trial unless they initiate it).
    3) Trial accounts are limited to /s /p /l. and can only send out 5 tells per min. Proper message indicating overage and excessive abuse = auto-ban
    4) Trial accounts can only carry/trade/dbox a limited amount of gil (unsure good amount)
    ... etc etc etc

Then I discoved chatmon and have never seen a RMT tell ever again (as long as I maintain aggressive custom filters)

Only issue with that is what if a Trial account is trying to make a PT? I know it sounds stupid however I've played MMOs with a similar tell system like XI's so I learned how to send tells within my first week.

I do say they need to put some kind of limit on tells though. Like a minimum level to use the /tell feature (Level 7?) and limit how many tells you can say per hour.

I think they will just level characters to get around the type of filter that only blocks by that type of account. If they had trial account limits in addition to other filter choices like the ability to block tells from those not on friends list, pt, alliance or linkshell, it might work better.

The answer has always been to disable tells and shouts on trial accounts, as this problem only started when the 14 day trial was created. Before then RMT had to pay for accounts to advertise (which wasn't worth it).

If this chat filter is anything less that "Ignore Tells from Trial Accounts [Y/N]" then it is fail and won't work.

Trial accounts shouldn't be able to trade, bazaar, send goods/money either, but that's a different problem.

The problem with that is you kinda screw over trials getting PTs. They shouldn't disable them, however they should put some kind of limit on tells for trials no doubt.

Ok then, Trial accounts can only reply to people that have already sent them a tell. That would be a little more difficult to program.

Failing that you get an automated response when sending a tell to a trial account saying "This person is using a trial account, do you wish to receive replies from them [y/n]"

you type /yes or whatever and bingo your genuine person trying out the game can reply and get parties, have cybersex or whatever it is the youngsters are doing these days.

As the level 1 subless mining bots that hide inside the walls of zhayolm proved. 10 min of pos'n around then drop tell spam then repeat.

So it would go something like this?

Sometaru is using a trial account, do you wish to receive replies from them? [y/n]
/p Wow ignoring this trial account warning this is so much easier than ignoring RMT tells. Oh wait it's the same.

Or would it go more like this?

Sometaru is using a trial account, do you wish to receive replies from them? [y/n]
    /yes

^Good point, having the access command pop up every time a unauthorized tell comes, is almost as annoying as not having the ability to block the same /tell.
