Bought a PS3, need some opinions

I was messing around on ebay last night and I caught an auction for a PS3 that was pretty low (i thought) with about 30 mins left. I placed a bid expecting to be out bid as it closed and low and behold, I won. It kind of has me worried though so i'm asking you all if I made a good buy or not.

It's a used 60 gig PS3 (i think that's the backwards compatable one for both ps1 and 2?) that comes with a dualshock 3 controller and an hdmi cable. I got it for $237.50 and after shipping and insurance it came to like $265.08 I think. The listing said it was in a smoke/child/animal free house and it seemed in good condition.

Also I was wondering about the controllers. I see some that say sixaxis and some that say dualshock 3 and then I see some that say both. What's the difference? Thanks.

One more thing, looking to buy Little Big Planet and MGS4 if anyone has them for sale.

You didn't do horrible, but you definitely could have gotten the PS3 for less.

The ones that say Sixaxis are the first generation of controllers to come out (along with the console), they have the motion sensing but no vibration. Dualshock 3 controllers came out later, they also have motion sensing but they have vibration.

Both are rechargable with the same cable and both can be used for any game. Not all games support vibration, some of the pre-dualshock 3 games were patched to support it but not all. You can also use the Dualshock 3 for ps2/ps1 games that have rumble, as well.

I've found that sixaxis controllers analogue sticks tend to get very loose after a lot of use, this happened to BOTH of my sixaxis controllers after about a year of use, and both were brand new when I bought them, this also happened to my brother and he is in the UK. It got so bad that in a lot of games I'd start walking by myself (aiming with the cutter in Dead Space was a PAIN), so when DS3 got released I picked up one. Problem seems to have been fixed, I've used it a lot and the analogue's are still in perfect condition, just bought another one recently so I can put both sixaxis away now.

DS3 run at around $40-$55 brand new, so the deal you got was pretty decent especially for a 60gb bc compatible one. One thing to be weary of though, I've heard of some people doing the temporary fix for the YLOD (overheating problem) and selling their systems on ebay, which fixes it, but some reportedly say it only works for a few days/weeks, when the solder will detach again.

EDIT: Not trying to scare you though, hopefully the seller isn't doing that and you got a very nice bargain.

As stated above you got a good deal if everything is as it should be. I have also seen people put a 60gb HD in other non-bc PS3's and sell them as "60gb's" so check your auction to see if they confirm it is bc with PS2 games, if so you did good.

Other than the fact I do not believe that Dualshock controllers came with the original 60GB ps3 (I could be wrong) but yeah, that is the only thing that would tip me off that it may not be hardware bc.

That is what I was thinking as well. They only released with sixaxis, but I have replaced all of my sixaxis with dualshock3's so that could be the case also.

It's a good deal if the console is BC, if not then you paid too much since you can get a new one for a few dollars more. I know the some versions of the 60gig were BC, but then they stopped producing BC 60gig's

The auction did state it was BC for PS1 and 2. I've been doing some shopping since then too. Picked up Little Big Planet for $33.00 new and looking at 2 used copied of MGS4 right now for about $26.00. Thanks for the opinions though. Glad to know if it works like new that I got my money's worth.

If they stated it was PS2 bc and it runs you got a great deal, congrats~

You can find MGS4 for 30$/New at some retail stores-- Heck, even Gamestop.com has it for 29.99 New.

I think LBP will soon be due for Best-Seller pricing, if not already.
