    PS3 Connection Problems

I'm having a problem with my internet connection on my PS3.

I am aware of the differences of NAT 1/2 and NAT 3, and me needing a NAT 1/2 connection to be able to get full connection benefits. So here's the issue.

Ive googled the shit out of this, and I have all the ports open on my router needed, and for a bit, it'll become a NAT 2 connection, but then, for reasons unknown, it will switch back to NAT 3 without any tampering with any settings. Also UPnP is turned on, but will get switched off when Nat 3 comes back. Direct connecting to the router doesn't seem to fix the problem either.

    Modem is a BEFCMU10. Router is a BEFSR41, and Wireless is a WAP54G
    (All Linksys).

    Any help is appreciated.

I'll bamp this one time, to see if I can get any assistance with it. I can do a connection test on the PS3 , receive a NAT 2 connection, then immediately after, redo the test, and receive NAT3.

Does the PS3 have a static network IP assigned?
If you DMZ the PS3, does it still have the same troubles?

Forgot to add that information, sorry.

Static IP assigned, and DMZ turned on, also UPnP on.

Edit: And yeah, with all this the problems still go on.

turn off upnp on ps3 and router.
    enable dmz on correct ip
    uncheck all that port forwarding.
make sure you set up your static ip correctly to ...23

    try that

Well DMZ is set properly I believe, so Ill try turning off all those ports. And I'll toggle off UPnP

And don't ask about the 23, thats just what it was set to in the stupid ass walkthrough I was using.

Have you checked out this thread? Has some stuff containing the DMZ and UPnP info and some specific to routers. Have you tried a wired connection directly to the modem to see if the problem is with the router or the PS3? With a direct connection you should get NAT1.

Tried turnring off those forwarded ports and UPnP, but still NAT 3. It really is the weirdest thing. I turn on the system, and immediately do a network test. Comes up NAT 2 and does the upload/download tests. But right when its done, I can do it again and right back to NAT3 it goes.

Yar, I think google brought up that topic when I was trying to troubleshoot this myself. I'm really at a loss here for what to do :/

Only thing I can think of is to isolate whether it is the PS3 or the router, try connecting directly to the modem and see if you get NAT1, if you think it is something wrong with the PS3 and it is still under warranty you could get Sony to fix it for free.

Or you could try another router and see if it works, if it is the router, you may have to just suck it up and buy a new one unless you can fix the problem. Usually NAT3 happens when incoming connections are being blocked, are you at a campus? Are they blocking ports? ISP problem maybe? Just trying to give you some ideas.

Most likely just a router issue though.

I'm starting to think that also. Also just a local residence, not a campus. That was a whole different shithole to jump through to play online.

Anywho. I think I'm going to start where I am now, and work backwards (Wireless, Wired to router, Wired to modem) and try to pinpoint the problem better. I'll be upset if I have to have a hard connection to this, I have enough cords running how it is.

Edit: About the blocking ports from the ISP, that's a good idea, I might give them a ring tomorrow if me moving things around doesn't work out.

Linksys brand is the problem. Seriously, for some reason every Linksys router/wireless router I've ever tried to use with my PS3 has caused major problems and I had to spend hours upon hours opening ports and such just trying to get it to work.
