    Socom: Confrontation revival?

Slant /shit/, aka Slant Six has actually been getting their act together this past 6-12 months and has patched the game up to remove all the flaws and they've recently now just announced an imminent DLC pack for $10-15 that will include 5 new maps, new weapons and attachments, and a whole new game mode ("Arms Race"). 3 of the new maps are sick looking remakes of old classics (Blizzard, Vigilance, Night Stalker) from Socom 2. If anyone still has theirs, they might want to consider pulling it out soon when the DLC drops. That, or go to Gamestop and buy one of the 1,000,000,000,000 used copies they have at plummeting prices.

I dunno if I could ever get back into that game. It was just such a disappointment that it's kind of turned me off completely.

Hmm, very enticing! I'll admit even after 1.13 was out it still didn't wash the bad taste out of my mouth from the release-style gameplay it had.

However, the return of one of my favorite maps and the promise of taking out all the problems that drew me away in the first place? Okay!

EDIT: Ugh, but reading these from Wiki don't help:

Patch 1.50 released August 25,2009 includes many new and diverse features including but not limited to: Clan Ladders, Tournaments, Calendar, Follow-A-Friend, and Private Games. Along with these features there are many optimizations, enhancements and fixes but little was done to resolve the issues that have bugged the game from the start. Following the patch in August unfortunately Slant six, the designers of SOCOM: Confrontation, tweaked the "finding game" system in which searching for a normal ranked game can find the searcher an unranked game, a huge fault in the patch.

Sadly the latest patch did not cure all that ales SOCOM: Confrontation. The voice of SOCOM:Confrontation, Cindy "AbigaleSS" Bowen, has posted on the official SOCOM.COM forum 9/18/09 that due to extended delays they will no longer post updates on the much anticipated patch and DLC that were expected by the end of summer.
Patch 1.6 (announced on 6/23/2009) will bring free DLC in the form of two new factions: The Dutch KCT and the Italian COMSUBIN which will feature the 417 Assault Rifle and the SPAS 15 Shotgun, respectively. Also, all players will receive the 9mm Sub, AK-74, SR-25, and M82A1A. This patch is yet to have been released and all requests for more information by fans and media alike have been denied by SONY representatives.

Downloadable content was announced on 6/30/2009 for release after patch 1.6 (still unreleased) via the blog on SOCOM.com. A preview of what looks to be a snow covered Vigilance from SOCOM 2 was posted alongside the announcement. Since the original posting however, there has been no mention of what else, if anything, is coming "down the pipe" and many forum users are starting rumors of the DLC being vaporware. SONY has said nothing in response to multiple requests and some pleas for more information from fans of the franchise other than "No Comment" which add fuel to these rumors.

Shame the game still has a sporadic frame-rate, lag in spots, and still has horrendous pop-in.

The whole game needs an overhaul imo, including a bloody single-player tutorial mode for newbs to learn the ropes without getting owned repeatedly online.

Playing again right now, it's definitely better than I remember it. Cool. Maybe I'll pick this back up a bit until MW2.

I told myself I wouldnt give slant six anymore of my money after they fucked up the game that made me get into video games in the first place (socom franchise). Although just seeing nightstalker on that list just sold the DLC to me lol. Doubt i'll play much though with MW2 coming out.

SLant six has ruined it for me.

Paid $60 for a incomplete game, they intended to "finish" over the course of a year...... so they are not getting anymore money from me.

Wiki is wrong, 1.50 is already out - 1.6 & DLC are coming out shortly. Game plays very nice now. I have no qualms about it anymore and have been playing it more lately in anticipation of Vigilance, Night Stalker, and Blizzard. (Vigilance photos look SICK).

I remember when buying the HDD for my PS2 would fix all the problems of S2. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, well... um... well don't fool me again.

Socom:2 was one of the greatest shooter games of all time - you can still find 1k-2k people playing it on any given weeknight. For 3 years straight it held with 20-30k people on at primetime every night. It (along with Socom 1) set the precedent for online console shooters like Halo and Call of Duty.

Did it have 1,000,000,000,000 glitches? Sure. Did it have 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 snooty little kids? Yep. But you apparently enjoyed it enough despite that to keep playing it and eventually drop $100 on an HDD for it.
