    Cat Help

Got a small issue here that's pissing me off, quite litteraly. Me and my gf have two cats which we both love, but the younger of the two has this nasty habbit of pissing on anything that is on the bedroom floor. It's only things that are on the floor. At first it started on the bed, and we guessed that it's cause she's in heat and trying to claim me as her male since it was on my gf's side she'd piss. She has since stopped and managed to sneak in the room during the day on a few occasions and not pee. Now I have to wake up every couple of hours to make sure our comforter hasn't fallen on the floor since I toss and turn a lot to keep her from pissing on it. Any advice on breaking her of this? She's an adorable kitty, and I couldn't bear to give her up, I just want to be able to have a clean comforter in the morning.

As a side note, keeping her out of the bedroom during the night doesn't work. She was abandoned as a young kitten and she has panic attacks if she's left alone (including not being with our other cat) for any extended time and litterally tries to go under the door to get in, and while seeing little cat paws reach under the door is cute, it kinda makes us sad and we wind up opening the door for her.

Why is the cat not fixed? This will easily resolve this problem, along with using a microbe-bacterial urine remover on the areas affected.

She was adopted before me and my gf met and at that time she didn't have the money to take her to the vet to check, and she didn't show any signs of not being fixed. Once she's out for good for the season, going to take her down to get fixed.

Make sure you're not using bleach or citrus smelling detergents to clean the area. My cat has a habit of doing it too to claim territory and it takes a lot of cleaning to deter her.

Well naturally, once you get the cat altered. It will be resolved much quickly (I can attest to this with 2 females, you name it and I've probably experienced it).

Biologically females will do that. Its rare for them not to get jealous and mark their territory while nearing heat in early teens. Even towards humans, as you have mentioned.

As for the constant cleaning of urine, etc. By ensuring your constantly keep on your toes with that. Along with the surgery, it will quickly and easily be taken care of.

Also look into certain clinics in your area. Not sure where you live, but where I live you can get discounts for getting your pet altered (usually 40-50% off total costs with vouchers) if you can't afford it.

Get one of the scent deterrents that mimic the scents cat pick up on, without mimicing the ones we do.

Also put little bits of tape around where she's peed, sticky side up, she'll step on them and decide she immediately hates that spot... plus it's amusing as hell.

If you catch a cat doing something bad, remember this: momma cat discipline is swift and violent.

I've watched momma cats smack kittens hard enough to literally bowl them over across the carpet two or three times, pounce on them and put them in a death grip and begin bludgeoning the kittens ass with her back feet... JUST hard enough that she won't break it.

If you SEE a cat in the act of pissing somewhere, clawing a couch, and you're worried you'll hurt it, backhand it with your fingertips, even if you only catch fur... it will bring back INSTANT memories of momma saying "ok that's it baby, you do that again and you die" with her paw.

Keep in mind, I fucking LOVE cats, and have owned and raised hundreds.

They are flexible, fairly resilient little ninjas, utterly retarded, and their default mood is somewhere between sleepy and lovey, if she's not doing either, what is wrong in her environment?

They are nocturnal, so for me to do that would involve me pissing on my chair and dresser as that is where they like to lounge during the day. That may kinda defeat the purpose for me lol

Thanks for the insight there Max. Guiness is a little ham and loves attention. She has this habbit if i'm leaning back in my chair where she just hops up on me, crawls up to where her head is on my chest and passes out. Corona though drives me batty. If no one is looking, she'll act cute, but if you catch her in the act she gives you the "I didn't do anything, stop looking at me look" and pretty much dictates when you are worthy to give her attention.

They are also the only two cats I know where cleaning each other starts there little "fights" They are not blood siblings but dear god they play fight like sisters.

For those who enjoy looking at cats, these are the two furballs that make me just roll my eyes and ignore any crash or bang I hear.

    Corona, the older one.

I agree completely 100% with you on the discipline issue. Animals should be disciplined similar, and accordingly as possible as to how it works in nature (I'm not saying pounce on your cat like a lion would to a cub).

I usually grab loosely the scruff on the back of their neck (as any mother would to show discipline) for a few seconds. 8/10 they usually will stop what they are doing. By using repetition, this shows them by memory not to do it.

As for if that would work because the cat is urinating due to a natural state that needs to be corrected by surgery. I highly doubt it would ever work.

Plus cats don't have the same type of short term memory as we do.

You show a cat where they've pissed after the fact, they're like "yeah... that's piss... soooo, what's your point?"

The only time it is right to actually reprimand a cat is RIGHT in the act, otherwise you're just being mean, because they literally forget what they just did.

If we had some dishes in the sink and I heard rustling in there, I'd slip quietly into the kitchen and ever so silently slide my hands over as many napes as I could manage... then, while they're in "oh shit... this is bad" mode... I turn the faucet on a little and set em free with swats at their rumps...

The next time I see them, even if it's just down the hall, I pet em, they forgot that they were in ur sink lickin ur dishes lol, they won't remember it until the next time they smell food, and think about hopping up on the counter... the first time they hear something soft and heavy like my footsteps while thinking about that, they'll shake their head and change their minds.

Reggie right now has forgotten for the 10th time in the last 30 minutes that it's raining outside.

I open the door, show him the rain, he purrs and looks at me like "ok... that's cool, turn it off now, I wanna go kill stuff"... I hold him just outside the door so he gets rained on a little... "YOWL, OMG DUDE IT'S WET, I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST SPECIAL EFFECTS WTF!"

    10 minutes later

"Heyyyyyy, can someone come do that thing with that shiny thing on this door so it stops being in the way and I can go kill stuff?"

    This

For example, with our youngest female Siamese (2 months, unfixed, was altered at 3 1/2 months).

She would constantly go in our bathroom trashcan to pick stuff out and play/eat/nibble on it. Which to my standards is fucking disgusting. In return I had two options.

    1. Go get an animal-proof trashcan, with lid, and not fix the real problem.
    2. Be on constant alert to the bathroom, and catch her in the act when she does it to fix this for good (to prevent her from doing something similar in the future, for example, maybe the kitchen trashcan when she gets older)

I decided to go with 2. And it did work, it took about 3-4 "GTFO" attempts with her running out. But after that she never went back in the bathroom to go near the trashcan to pull stuff out.

    Money saved.

I used to favor jeans most of the time because I made a mistake of encouraging a litter of kittens that just started walking... to climb my jeans to chase after food, cause walking around with four fat little fuzzy potatoes clinging to your pants is quite hilarious.

They would begin using this trick when I would make interesting sandwiches, ham and turkey and cheese types especially, so I started just kinda shaking them off... one day my sister walks by and makes a comment out of it, so I figured I'd pull a "wtf?" moment, stepped on the lever of the trashcan to raise the lid, scooped the kitten up and dropped him in.

She walks off... realizes what just happened, walks back to find him like "nah, I'm good right here, go on with whatever you were doing"...

Just what the trashcan thing reminded me of...

Wynx was the worst though, she figured out how to test doors, she'd hook her claws into the bottom of the cabinet and tug until it thumped, and then bounced open wide enough to get her head in...

Then she'd root around and make a "kill"... drag it out into the kitchen floor and trill for babies to come feast.

I've walked in to find her with disembowled boxes of oatmeal, loaves of bread, and one time a sack of beans... which she didn't mind cause she had a taste for peanuts and tomatos and lettuce... but the kittens couldn't figure them out.

I miss her, little kink tailed baby machine, spat out something like 10 litters of kittens, but she just made such wonderfully fun and pretty babies we didn't have the heart to stop her. She had good taste in boys, great big studly males that ran the rest off when she sat yowling at a window til someone stopped paying attention and she slipped out to fuck.

lol, well ty sub, I've got finely honed momma cat reflexes... which at first shocked my gf... she was scared that I'd break one cause I deliberately exaggerate any swipes so they feel the wind on their fur and think "whew... that was too close... I gotta go".

We had this little nutburger kit that liked to sleep curled up under our chins at night, Gideon, I cried when he got hit by a car. T.T

Anyway, he went into nursing instincts on her one night and started kneading on the side of her neck and chewing her ear... bit too hard and woke up her, and she just flings him end over end out of a reflex reaction towards the foot of the bed.

I hear "reoowr" *thud*, she freaks out crying, I start comforting her and then say "here, it's ok... look" and we crawl down to where he landed, he's sitting there gazing up at us adoringly and purring.

Only momma tries to kill you without actually finishing you off.

I could go on and on about Guiness. God help us all if the fate of the world ever rests in her paws, cause she is not smart. She reminds me and my gf of Dot from Animaniacs. Right now her latest thing to do when I'm in my chair is play mountain climber. She can easily hop to the top of my chair to rest, but why do that when I can climb to the top, ensuring I have more pretty holes to look at.

    The trashcan is pretty funny.

Reggie playing Metal Gear Fatso is comedy.

We open the little cabinet by the dishwasher, which the dog and two cats know contains treats, and while the other animals go scrambling for the tasty snacks we're offering.

Reggie quietly slips into the cabinet, and sits there trying to blend in with the shadows at the back of it (he's pitch black)... course, you can see his fat gut spilling out past the edge of the shadows... but pay no attention to the fat behind the curtain there.

Just put the treats back and close the door, then his master plan will finally pay off.

My cat (who is otherwise beautifully housetrained, prim and proper) will do this if you leave clothes etc lying on the bedroom floor. Over time we've just learnt to pick things up as best as we can and the problem seems to have gone away - unless she's pissed off and then she'll do it for revenge (hell hath no fury like a sulking cat).

As for the rain thing - quite why they never figure out that if it's raining outside the back door, it's going to be raining outside the front door as well is beyond me... or that they cannot in fact jump through a plate glass patio door to wallop the cat that's just showed up in the back garden - and that humans WILL laugh when they try to and bounce straight back off, then flounce away like they planned to do it all along (and it's hard to flounce when you've only got three legs to start with).

I also love the cat hiding logic - as long as their head's hidden they must be invisible... the foot of cat tail swooshing out of the hidey hole doesn't in any way give them away at all... or the suspicious cat-shaped lump under the rug.
