Beyond Survival/Man vs Wild
For those who watch these shows, you may have noticed that recently both shows have attempted to retread themselves by looking at survival from a different aspect.
Les Stroud has taken the original "Survivorman" which largely revolved around him putting himself in harsh environments alone into more of a survival documentary about the native people of different countries and how their world is quickly vanishing to the encroaching modern world.
Bear Grylls' "Man vs Wild" has gone from a show where he also put himself in harsh environs into a show more about how to survive specific incidents that could result in life or death decisions using simulations.
What are your opinions about both shows? Did you like the old version or new version better? Commentary on the newer survival shows "Man Woman Wild" and "Dual Survival" and how they compare is worth a look at as well.

That depends.
Does Bear Grylls still kill assorted shit to partake upon their flesh in front of the camera?
If so, I don't see any reason why the show wouldn't still be awesome.

The point of Man Woman Wild is to show how girls aren't meant to survive in the wilderness.

I dislike every survivor type show except the ones where Bear is in it. The episode of man v wild with will ferrel, and the one with the 2 fans of show, people who have no idea how to do shit but bear makes them work... Awesome.
Now his new eps where he shows what to do with bad situations, it's a nice spin. He always talks about these situations like a flash flood and what to do if they happen but we've never seen one; it's a nice change of pace. Bear owns, fuck everyone else. I want to be his friend.

I like les straus' approach better. It looks more real to me, compared to bear that always does "daring" stuff for the sake of doing it.
