you have to go under pet commands and hit avatars favor, friend was having same problem till he hit that. No idea why you gotta do though...

Seems broken, It should be on at all times with Carby mitts and Light staff - Will be fixed on next patch no doubt

i quote myself from about 13 months ago when i say the following:

y'see. bad developers stick magic numbers into their code. SE has pioneered a whole new field. they stick magic 8 balls into their code. every update they get shaken and the unlucky ones come up "outlook hazy ask again later" and break.

they probably bundled the carby mitts test inside the test for the favor ability thus making favor a pre-req for checking for carby mitts. no doubt it will be fixed soon enough, but fairly clumsy that they didn't even test all the -perp items when they KNEW they were working on perp... sloppy!

I wonder what else wont actually work at first glance, Carby not being free is a little obvious, but there is other armors out their that may have traits being ignored due to this new ability.
